Orunodoi ("Dawn / Rise") is Assam's flagship women income support scheme providing monthly Direct Benefit Transfer directly to eligible women. With over 40 lakh beneficiary families, it is one of the largest state-run women DBT programmes in India.

Under CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's second term (2026–), Orunodoi continues — with the BJP manifesto promising an increase to ₹3,000/month (from the current ₹1,250/month). The enhancement is not yet formally notified as of May 2026.

What is the Orunodoi Scheme?

Orunodoi is a monthly stipend of ₹1,250 transferred directly to the bank account of a nominated woman member of each eligible low-income household in Assam. The scheme is implemented by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Assam, via the Aadhaar-linked DBT system.

Key Evolution:

A new provision from 2025 allows 2 women per household to receive Orunodoi (earlier only 1), effectively doubling the household benefit.
