What is BSNL Broadband?

BSNL offers two types of broadband connections:

  2. BSNL Bharat Fiber (FTTH) — Fiber-to-the-home connection with speeds from 30 Mbps to 300 Mbps. This is BSNL's flagship broadband product.

Bharat Fiber is available in most cities and towns where BSNL has laid fiber infrastructure. It offers unlimited data with many plans.

  • Existing BSNL landline customers can upgrade to broadband easily.
  • No age restriction, but the applicant must be 18 years or older.
  • Both residential and commercial connections are available.

Tips and Best Practices

  1. Check fiber availability first before applying — enter your pincode on the BSNL portal.
  2. Choose FTTH over DSL — Bharat Fiber is faster, more reliable, and similarly priced.
  3. Use your own router if the BSNL-provided one is basic — any Wi-Fi 6 router works.
  4. Pay bills on time to avoid disconnection. Set up auto-debit for convenience.
  5. Monitor your usage via the BSNL Selfcare portal — check remaining data and speed.
  6. Escalate delays — if installation takes more than 15 days, file a complaint at pgportal.gov.in or call BSNL customer care at 1800-345-1500.
  7. Compare with private ISPs before deciding — see our guide on Jio Fiber vs Airtel Xstream.
  8. BSNL bill payment can be done online via the selfcare portal, UPI apps, or at CSCs. See our electricity bill payment guide for similar online payment tips.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Is BSNL Bharat Fiber available in my area?

Check on booking.bsnl.co.in by entering your pincode. If fiber is not yet available, you can register your interest and BSNL will notify you when it's ready.

2. Do I need a BSNL landline for broadband?

For Bharat Fiber (FTTH), a landline comes free with the plan — you don't need an existing one. For older DSL broadband, yes, a landline is mandatory.

3. Can I use my own Wi-Fi router with BSNL?

Yes. BSNL provides an ONT (Optical Network Terminal) for FTTH. You can connect your own router to the ONT for better Wi-Fi coverage.

4. How do I pay my BSNL broadband bill online?

Visit selfcare.bsnl.co.in, log in with your account, and pay via UPI, card, or net banking. You can also pay through Paytm, PhonePe, or Google Pay.

5. Can I change my BSNL broadband plan?

Yes. Log in to the Selfcare portal and go to "Change Plan". The new plan takes effect from the next billing cycle. No charges for plan migration.

6. What if BSNL broadband speed is slow?

First, test your speed at speedtest.net. If consistently below your plan speed, call BSNL customer care (1800-345-1500) or lodge a complaint on the portal. Check your router placement and cables too.

7. Can I transfer my BSNL connection to a new address?

Yes. Apply for a shift request at your BSNL office or via the Selfcare portal. A nominal shifting charge (₹250–₹500) applies, and fiber must be available at the new location.
