How to Download e-PAN Card Online (Instant e-PAN via Aadhaar)

Lost your PAN card? Need a digital copy urgently? You can download your e-PAN card online in just a few minutes — completely free of cost. This guide covers all the methods to get your e-PAN, check PAN status, and order a physical reprint.

What is an e-PAN Card?

An e-PAN is a digitally signed PAN card issued by the Income Tax Department in PDF format. Key points:

  • It is a legally valid document, equivalent to a physical PAN card
  • Contains a QR code with your name, date of birth, and PAN details
  • Can be used for KYC verification, bank account opening, ITR filing, and more
  • Available as a downloadable PDF from official government portals
  • Your 10-digit PAN number remains the same on both physical and e-PAN

Method 1: Instant e-PAN from Income Tax Portal (Free, Aadhaar-Based)

This is the fastest and completely free method. The Income Tax Department provides instant e-PAN if your PAN is linked with Aadhaar.

Requirements:

  • Valid Aadhaar number linked to your PAN
  • Mobile number registered with Aadhaar (for OTP)
  • PAN must already be allotted to you

Steps to Download:

  1. Go to the Income Tax e-Filing portal: https://eportal.incometax.gov.in
  2. On the homepage, click on "Instant e-PAN" under Quick Links
  3. You will see two options — select "Check Status / Download e-PAN"
  4. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and click Continue
  5. An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  6. Enter the OTP and click Continue
  7. Your e-PAN will be displayed — click "Download e-PAN"
  8. A PDF file will be downloaded to your device

Note: If you don't have a PAN yet, you can also use the "Get New e-PAN" option on the same page to apply for a new PAN using Aadhaar — also free of cost.

Tip: The downloaded e-PAN PDF is password-protected. The password is your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format (e.g., 15081990).
