e-EPIC — How to Download Your Digital Voter ID Card Online

e-EPIC (Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card) is the official digital PDF version of your Voter ID card, introduced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in January 2021. It carries the same legal validity as the physical plastic EPIC card and can be shown on your phone as photo ID at polling booths and for other ID-proof purposes.

You can download e-EPIC if:

• Your mobile number is registered with your voter ID (linked in the NVSP/ECI database)
• You are enrolled as a voter in any constituency in India

Two categories of eligibility:

How to Download e-EPIC — Step by Step

Method 1 — Via voters.eci.gov.in (Recommended)

1. Go to voters.eci.gov.in
2. Click "Login" on the top right
3. Enter your registered mobile number → click "Send OTP"
4. Enter the OTP received → click "Verify"
5. You are now on your voter dashboard
6. Click "Download e-EPIC"
7. Enter your EPIC number (voter ID number) or it may auto-fill
8. Click "Download" — the PDF saves to your device
9. Open the PDF — when prompted for password, enter: first 4 letters of your name in CAPITALS + birth year
   • Example: Name = Rajesh Kumar, DOB = 1988 → Password = RAJE1988

Method 2 — Via NVSP Portal

1. Go to nvsp.in (National Voter Service Portal)
2. Log in with your voter credentials or mobile OTP
3. Go to "e-EPIC Download" section
4. Enter your EPIC number and state
5. Verify with OTP → Download

Method 3 — Via Voter Helpline App

1. Download the "Voter Helpline" app (Android/iOS)

e-EPIC Password Format

The downloaded PDF is password-protected:

Password = First 4 letters of your name (CAPS) + 4-digit birth year

If your name has fewer than 4 letters, pad with zeros or the next character as shown. If the password doesn't work, try variations — some accounts use the first 4 letters without spaces or special characters.

What If My Mobile Number Is Not Linked?

If your mobile number is not registered in the ECI database, you cannot directly download e-EPIC.

Options to link your mobile:

Option 1 — Online at voters.eci.gov.in

1. Go to voters.eci.gov.in → Select "Correction in Voter ID"
2. Fill Form 8 (correction form)
3. Add your mobile number
4. Submit — it gets updated within a few weeks

Option 2 — Through your BLO (Booth Level Officer)

1. Find your BLO: voters.eci.gov.in → "Know Your BLO"
2. Visit the BLO with your Aadhaar and existing Voter ID
3. Request mobile number update
4. BLO updates the record within a few days

Option 3 — At Voter Facilitation Centre Visit your nearest Voter Facilitation Centre (usually at ERO / Tehsil office) with documents.

Using Aadhaar OTP Instead of Mobile OTP

If your mobile isn't linked but your Aadhaar is linked to your voter registration:

1. On the login screen, choose "Login with Aadhaar OTP"
2. Enter your Aadhaar number
3. OTP goes to the mobile linked to your Aadhaar (not necessarily your voter registration)
4. Proceed to download e-EPIC

Can I Store e-EPIC in DigiLocker?

e-EPIC is not yet automatically pushed to DigiLocker by ECI. However, you can:

• Upload manually to DigiLocker (as a self-uploaded document)
• Use the downloaded PDF directly from your phone

Is e-EPIC Legally Valid?

Yes. The Election Commission has officially stated that e-EPIC is valid for:

• Voting at polling booths (you can show it on your phone)
• Government ID proof where Voter ID is accepted
• KYC documents at banks, mobile operators, etc.

The PDF has a QR code that can be scanned to verify authenticity.

Common Problems and Fixes

"Mobile number not found" error

Your mobile is not linked to your voter registration. Use the Form 8 correction process or visit your BLO to link it.

OTP not received

• Check if the mobile number shown on screen is correct
• Ensure your phone has network coverage
• Wait 2 minutes and retry
• Try at off-peak hours (early morning) — ECI portal can be slow

PDF won't open / wrong password

• Password is CASE SENSITIVE — must be CAPITALS
• Try: First 4 letters in CAPS + 4-digit birth year
• If your name has a prefix (Mr., Dr.) ignore it
• If name is written differently (e.g., "S Kumar" vs "Satish Kumar"), try both versions

e-EPIC shows old/wrong address

The e-EPIC reflects your current voter registration data. If address is wrong, update it via Form 8 at voters.eci.gov.in and re-download after update.
