LPG Gas Subsidy Not Received — How to Check & Fix

Under the PAHAL (Pratyaksh Hanstantrit Labh) scheme, also called DBTL (Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG), the government transfers LPG subsidy directly to your bank account when you buy a subsidized cylinder. If you bought a cylinder but didn't receive the subsidy in your bank account, this guide will help you check the status and fix the problem.

How PAHAL/DBTL Subsidy Works

  1. You buy an LPG cylinder at market price (non-subsidized rate)
  2. The subsidy amount is transferred directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account within 2-7 working days
  3. The subsidy amount varies — it is the difference between the market price and the subsidized price set by the government

Note: As of 2024-25, subsidized cylinders are available to Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries at ₹300 per cylinder. For other consumers, the government periodically announces subsidy amounts.

  • The credit usually appears 2-7 working days after cylinder delivery

Why LPG Subsidy Is Not Credited — Common Reasons

1. Aadhaar Not Linked to LPG Connection

This is the most common reason. Your Aadhaar must be linked to your LPG consumer account for DBTL subsidy transfer.

Fix:

  • Visit your LPG distributor with your Aadhaar card and LPG consumer card
  • Fill the Aadhaar seeding form
  • Or link online via your provider's website/app

2. Aadhaar Not Linked to Bank Account

Even if Aadhaar is linked to your LPG account, it must also be linked to your bank account for the subsidy to reach you.

Fix:

  • Visit your bank branch with Aadhaar card and passbook
  • Request Aadhaar-bank account linking (seeding)
  • Ensure your bank account is the one set as the default account for Aadhaar-based payments (check via NPCI mapper)

3. Wrong Bank Account Receiving the Subsidy

If you have multiple bank accounts linked to Aadhaar, the subsidy goes to the one mapped as default in the NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) Aadhaar Payment Bridge.

Fix:

  1. Visit the bank where you want to receive the subsidy
  2. Request them to re-seed your Aadhaar and set it as the default account for Aadhaar-based payments
  3. Wait 2-3 days for the update to reflect

4. Bank Account Closed or Inactive

If your linked bank account is closed, frozen, or has KYC issues, the subsidy transfer will fail.

Fix:

  • Reactivate your bank account by visiting the branch
  • Or link a different active bank account to your Aadhaar and LPG connection

5. LPG Connection in "Non-Subsidized" Category

Some consumers are in the Give It Up (non-subsidized) category — either voluntarily or due to income tax filing above ₹10 lakh.

Fix:

  • Check your subsidy status on mylpg.in
  • If you were wrongly categorized, contact your LPG distributor with supporting documents

6. Duplicate LPG Connection

If you have more than one LPG connection (in your name or at the same address), subsidy may be blocked.

Fix:

  • Surrender the duplicate connection at your distributor
  • Retain only one connection per household

7. Processing Delay

Subsidy can take up to 7 working days after cylinder delivery. During holidays or system maintenance, it may take longer.

Fix:

  • Wait for 10 working days before raising a complaint
  • Check your bank statement after 10 days

How to File a Complaint for Missing Subsidy

Step 1: Contact Your LPG Distributor

  • Call your local distributor's number (printed on your LPG consumer card)
  • Provide your consumer number and delivery date

Step 2: Call Oil Company Customer Care

Company Helpline Number
Indane (IOCL) 1800-233-3555
HP Gas (HPCL) 1800-233-3555
Bharat Gas (BPCL) 1800-224-344

Step 3: File Online Grievance

Step 4: Escalate to MoPNG (Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas)

If your complaint is not resolved within 30 days:

  • File a grievance on PG Portal: https://pgportal.gov.in/
  • Select Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas
  • Attach your consumer number, bank statement, and previous complaint reference

Important Tips

  1. Keep your Aadhaar linked to both your LPG connection and your bank account — this is mandatory for DBTL subsidy
  2. Check NPCI mapper — Your bank should be the default for Aadhaar-based payments
  3. Don't have duplicate connections — Only one subsidized LPG connection is allowed per household
  4. Save delivery receipts — Keep cylinder delivery receipts for at least 6 months as proof
  5. Update your mobile number — Keep your registered mobile number active with your distributor for subsidy notifications
