What is Indian Navy Recruitment?
The Indian Navy offers multiple entry schemes for officers and sailors. Officers can join through UPSC exams (NDA/CDS), university entry schemes, or direct recruitment through the Indian Navy's own selection process. Sailors are recruited through periodic recruitment drives conducted by the Navy.
The Indian Navy has three main branches โ Executive, Engineering, and Education โ with further specializations within each.

Sailor Entry Schemes
Agniveer (Navy)
- Agniveer SSR (Senior Secondary Recruit): 10+2 with PCM, age 17.5-21 years
- Agniveer MR (Matric Recruit): 10th pass, age 17.5-21 years
- Duration: 4 years under Agnipath scheme (25% retained for permanent service)
Artificer Apprentice
- 10+2 with PCM (60%+)
- Age: 17.5-21 years
- Technical training at INS Chilka
Selection Process for Officers
Stage 1: Shortlisting
- Based on academic marks, JEE score (for 10+2 B.Tech), or written exam
- SSC entries use a separate online exam or merit-based shortlisting
Stage 2: SSB Interview (5 Days)
- Day 1: Screening โ Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) and PPDT
- Days 2-4: Psychological tests, Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks, Personal Interview
- Day 5: Conference
- SSB centres: Bangalore, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam
Stage 3: Medical Examination
- Conducted at INHS hospitals
- Vision: 6/6 without glasses for executive and pilot branches
- Strict standards for color vision and hearing
Stage 4: Merit List
- Final list based on SSB marks and academic record
- IHQ-MoD (Navy) publishes the final selection
Selection Process for Sailors
- Online Exam โ computer-based test covering Maths, Science, English, and General Awareness
- Physical Fitness Test (PFT) โ 1.6 km run, push-ups, squats, sit-ups
- Medical Examination โ strict fitness standards
- Merit List โ based on exam score and PFT
