Karnataka Caste Certificate Apply Online 2026

The caste certificate (ಜಾತಿ ą²Ŗą³ą²°ą²®ą²¾ą²£ ą²Ŗą²¤ą³ą²° — Jaati Praman Patra) in Karnataka is issued by the Revenue Department (Tahsildar) and is required for Karnataka-specific OBC categories (2A, 3A, 3B), SC/ST reservations, KCET reserved category counselling, government job applications (KPSC), and post-matric scholarships. Applications go through Seva Sindhu — Karnataka's unified e-services platform — or the dedicated Nadakacheri portal.

Quick summary: Apply at sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in or nadakacheri.karnataka.gov.in. Issued by Tahsildar within 15–30 days.

Karnataka's Unique OBC Classification System

Karnataka uses a four-category OBC system that is different from the central OBC classification:

Category Reservation % Key Communities
Category I 4% Scheduled Tribes converted, Hakkipikki, Koraga, etc.
Category IIA (2A) 15% Vokkaliga, Gowda, Lingayat, Edigas, Curumbas, etc.
Category IIB (2B) 3% Muslim OBC communities
Category IIIA (3A) 4% Veerashaiva/Lingayat sub-castes (specific communities)
Category IIIB (3B) 5% Brahmin sub-castes (specific communities)
SC 15% Scheduled Castes
ST 3% Scheduled Tribes

Karnataka's OBC system is unique — Vokkaligas and Lingayats are politically dominant OBC communities. They fall under 2A and 3A respectively. These categories provide state reservation but are not covered by the central OBC list for central government benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions

2A category in Karnataka — am I OBC at the central level too?

Not automatically. Karnataka's 2A (Vokkaliga, Gowda, etc.) and 3A (Lingayat communities) have state reservation. However, most of these communities are not in the central OBC list. For UPSC/SSC/railways, check your community at ncbc.nic.in. If not listed, you do not get central OBC reservation even with a Karnataka OBC certificate.

Vokkaliga caste certificate — which category in Karnataka?

Vokkaliga and allied communities (Gowda, Morasu Vokkaliga, etc.) are categorized under Category IIA (2A) in Karnataka. Apply as "Category IIA" in the caste certificate form. The Karnataka government has been pursuing inclusion of Vokkaligas in central OBC list — check current status before applying for central OBC NCL.

Lingayat caste certificate — which category?

Lingayat / Veerashaiva Lingayat communities are in Category IIIA (3A) in Karnataka. Like 2A, most Lingayat sub-communities are not in the central OBC list. Apply for Karnataka 3A certificate for state purposes.

KCET caste certificate — same as income certificate?

No — caste certificate proves community (OBC/SC/ST category). Income certificate proves annual family income. For KCET reserved category: you need caste certificate + income certificate (income < ₹2 lakh/year for most OBC scholarship schemes). Both applied separately on Seva Sindhu.
