Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (Additional)

For serious illnesses requiring surgery or hospitalization, Maharashtra's Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MPJAY) covers:

  • Up to ₹1.5 lakh (general) to ₹5 lakh (for specific surgeries) cashless treatment
  • At government and empanelled private hospitals
  • For BPL / white ration card / Antyodaya card holders

MPJAY is separate from the ₹1 OPD scheme but works at the same government hospitals.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the ₹1 really just ₹1 for all patients or only for BPL?

The ₹1 registration is for all patients. At government hospitals, the OPD consultation is nominally charged (₹1–₹5) regardless of income status.

2. Are medicines really free at government hospitals?

Medicines from the government hospital formulary are free. However, if the doctor prescribes medicines not available at the hospital pharmacy, you may need to buy from outside (Jan Aushadhi/generic stores can be much cheaper than branded pharmacies).

3. I need an MRI. Is it free at a government hospital?

MRI and CT scan are available at government hospitals at subsidised rates (₹500–₹2,000 vs ₹5,000–₹15,000 at private). Completely free for BPL card holders under MPJAY.

4. There is a very long queue at the government hospital. Any tips?

Arrive early — OPD starts at 9 AM. Many government hospitals have a token system — collect your token early even if you arrive before the OPD starts. Some hospitals have online appointment booking.
