What is MP Mukhyamantri Tirth Darshan Yojana?

Mukhyamantri Tirth Darshan Yojana is Madhya Pradesh government's scheme to provide free pilgrimage by special train to senior citizens aged 60 and above. The entire cost — train travel, food, accommodation at pilgrimage site, and escort facility — is borne by the state government.

One of the most popular state welfare schemes in MP, it has facilitated pilgrimage for lakhs of senior citizens.

Who is Eligible?

• Madhya Pradesh resident (minimum 5 years continuous residency)
• Age 60 years or above — Aadhaar-verified DOB
• Not an income tax payer
• Not a government pensioner (in some programme versions — check current year)
• Can apply once per lifetime under this scheme
• One attendant allowed if the senior citizen is physically challenged or unwell

How to Apply

Step 1 — Online Application

Go to tirthdarshan.mp.gov.in:

• Register with Aadhaar / Samgra ID
• Choose destination and preferred batch (based on availability)
• Upload required documents
• Submit application

Step 2 — Offline Application

If not comfortable with online application:

• Visit the Tehsil / Nagar Panchayat / Nagar Palika office
• Submit filled application form with documents to the local SDM/Tehsildar
• They upload to the portal on your behalf

Step 3 — Selection and Allotment

Applications are reviewed by district administration. Seats per district per batch are limited. Selected applicants are notified by SMS/call.

Step 4 — Departure

Report at the designated railway station on the date given. Government escort guides the group from boarding to return.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. My mother is 68 years old and wants to visit Varanasi. Can she apply?

Yes. She is eligible. Apply online at tirthdarshan.mp.gov.in or at the nearest Tehsil office. She should mention Varanasi/Gaya as the preferred destination.

2. Can my father's attendant also travel free?

If the senior citizen is physically challenged or medically needs an attendant, one attendant is permitted free. Provide medical certificate from a government doctor.

3. I am a government pensioner. Can I apply?

Earlier versions of the scheme excluded government pensioners. Check the current year's eligibility at tirthdarshan.mp.gov.in — some scheme iterations have included pensioners too.

4. How many times can I apply?

The scheme allows once per lifetime per senior citizen. If you have already availed the benefit, you cannot apply again.

5. What if I am not selected in the first batch?

Your application remains active. You will be considered for the next available batch to the same destination. Multiple batches run through the year.
