Mutual Fund KYC Not Verified โ€” How to Fix

You try to invest in a mutual fund and the platform says "KYC not verified" or "KYC incomplete." This is one of the most common blockers for mutual fund investors in India. Your KYC may be registered with a KRA (KYC Registration Agency) but not yet validated โ€” or there could be a data mismatch. This guide covers every scenario and how to fix it.

Understanding KYC Status Types

Before troubleshooting, know what each KYC status means:

Status Meaning Can You Invest?
KYC Registered Documents submitted but not fully verified โŒ No (most platforms reject)
KYC Verified Old status โ€” identity verified but may lack Aadhaar validation โš ๏ธ Limited (some AMCs allow)
KYC Validated Aadhaar-based validation done, all details confirmed โœ… Yes
KYC On Hold Discrepancy found, action needed โŒ No
KYC Rejected Application rejected due to errors โŒ No

Important: Since SEBI's April 2024 circular, "KYC Validated" (via Aadhaar authentication) is required for new mutual fund investments. Older "KYC Verified" or "KYC Registered" status may not be sufficient.

Step 1 โ€” Check Your Current KYC Status

Check your KYC status on any of the 4 SEBI-registered KRA portals using your PAN number:

KRA Portal URL
CAMS KRA camskra.com
CVL KRA cvlkra.com
KFintech (Karvy) KRA karvykra.com
NDML KRA kra.ndml.in

How to check:

  1. Visit any KRA portal above
  2. Go to KYC Status Check or KYC Inquiry
  3. Enter your PAN number
  4. Complete the captcha
  5. Your KYC status will be displayed

Tip: Your PAN may be registered with only one KRA. If one portal shows "PAN not found," try another. You can also check on CAMS Online KYC Enquiry or KFintech KYC Check.

Problem 1 โ€” KYC Registered but Not Verified/Validated

This is the most common issue. Your KYC was done years ago (possibly paper-based) and shows as "Registered" or "Verified" but not "Validated."

How to fix:

  1. Visit your AMC's website or app (e.g., Groww, Zerodha Coin, Kuvera, MF Central)
  2. Look for "KYC Update" or "KYC Modification" option
  3. Complete Aadhaar-based OTP verification (eKYC)
  4. Your mobile number and email will be re-validated via Aadhaar
  5. Status changes to "KYC Validated" within 24โ€“72 hours

Alternative โ€” Update via KRA portal directly:

  1. Visit CAMS KRA โ†’ Modify KYC
  2. Enter PAN โ†’ Authenticate with Aadhaar OTP
  3. Verify mobile number and email linked to Aadhaar
  4. Submit โ€” KYC status updates to Validated

Note: The KRA your PAN is registered with matters. If your PAN is with CVL KRA, update on CVL KRA's portal or through an AMC that routes to CVL.

Problem 2 โ€” Aadhaar-Based eKYC Rejected

Your Aadhaar OTP verification failed or eKYC was rejected during mutual fund KYC.

Common causes and fixes:

Cause Fix
Mobile number not linked to Aadhaar Visit nearest Aadhaar centre โ†’ link your current mobile number
Aadhaar details don't match PAN (name/DOB) Update Aadhaar or PAN to match (see Problem 4 below)
UIDAI server down Try again after a few hours
Biometric lock enabled on Aadhaar Unlock biometrics on myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
OTP not received Check if your mobile is active; try after 30 minutes

If eKYC keeps failing:

  • Try Aadhaar XML or DigiLocker method instead of OTP
  • Some platforms (like CAMS KRA) support Aadhaar XML upload as an alternative
  • As a last resort, do physical KYC at an AMC branch or KRA Point of Service (PoS)

Problem 3 โ€” CKYC Number Issues

CKYC (Central KYC) is a centralized KYC record maintained by CERSAI. Some platforms ask for your CKYC number.

"CKYC number not found":

  • Your KYC may exist with a KRA but not yet migrated to CKYC
  • Complete Aadhaar-based KYC validation on any AMC platform โ€” a CKYC record is auto-created
  • Check CKYC status at ckycindia.in using PAN

"CKYC details mismatch":

  • Name, DOB, or address in CKYC doesn't match your mutual fund application
  • Update CKYC through your bank or AMC by submitting corrected documents
  • Banks can update CKYC records directly via CERSAI portal

Problem 4 โ€” Name or DOB Mismatch

A name or date of birth mismatch between PAN, Aadhaar, and KRA records is a frequent KYC blocker.

How to identify:

  • KYC status shows "On Hold" with reason: name/DOB mismatch
  • eKYC fails with "details do not match" error
  • Check exact name and DOB on:

How to fix:

  1. If Aadhaar is wrong: Update name/DOB on Aadhaar at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in or visit an Aadhaar centre
  2. If PAN is wrong: Correct PAN details at onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html (NSDL) or utiitsl.com (UTIITSL)
  3. Once both match: Re-do Aadhaar eKYC on your AMC platform or KRA portal
  4. KYC status should update to Validated within 1โ€“3 working days

Critical: Name must match exactly โ€” even minor differences like "RAJESH KUMAR" vs "RAJESH KUMAR SHARMA" will cause rejection.

Problem 5 โ€” IPV (In-Person Verification) Pending

Some older KYC records or new KYC applications require IPV โ€” a video or in-person identity check.

How to complete IPV:

  1. Via AMC app โ€” Most apps (Groww, Kuvera, Paytm Money, ET Money) offer video IPV during KYC
    • You'll be asked to show your PAN card on camera
    • Record a short video or take a live selfie
    • Ensure good lighting and clear PAN visibility
  2. Via AMC branch โ€” Visit any mutual fund AMC branch with original PAN and Aadhaar
  3. Via KRA Point of Service (PoS) โ€” Find nearest PoS on the KRA portal

IPV keeps failing?

  • Ensure your camera permissions are enabled for the browser/app
  • Use a well-lit room with a plain background
  • Hold PAN card steady โ€” avoid blur
  • Try a different browser (Chrome works best)
  • Some apps have a 60-second timeout โ€” keep PAN ready before starting
