Generally, you should apply for the subject matching your postgraduate degree. However, NTA allows some flexibility ā check the subject-wise eligibility on the official website.
How many times can I attempt UGC NET?
There is no limit on attempts for NET (Assistant Professor eligibility). For JRF, you must be within the age limit (30 years, with relaxation for reserved categories).

NET qualification for Assistant Professor is valid for life. JRF validity is 3 years from the date of the award letter to join a research program.
