What is Rashtriya Gokul Mission?

Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) is a Government of India scheme launched to develop and conserve indigenous bovine breeds (desi cows and bulls) and increase milk productivity. The mission funds:

  • Gokul Grams — integrated cattle development centres
  • E-Pashu Haat — online marketplace for indigenous breeds
  • High-quality semen stations for artificial insemination (AI)
  • IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) technology centres for elite cows
  • Incentives to breeders for maintaining indigenous herds

Key Benefits for Farmers and Breeders

Who is Eligible?

Gokul Mission benefits are available to:

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does Rashtriya Gokul Mission give direct money to farmers?

No direct cash. The benefits are access to quality AI services (free), an online marketplace for indigenous cattle, and state government programmes that create high-quality semen and breed farms.

2. My cow is a crossbreed. Can I still get AI under this scheme?

AI services are primarily for upgrading to indigenous breeds. Your crossbreed cow can receive AI using indigenous semen (e.g., Gir) to improve the next generation's indigenous genetics.

3. What is a Gokul Gram?

Gokul Grams are integrated cattle development centres set up by states under RGM funding. They maintain elite indigenous herds, provide veterinary services, and supply quality calves to farmers. Contact your State Animal Husbandry Department to find the nearest one.

4. How do I find a pashupalan mitra for doorstep AI services?

Contact your Block Veterinary Officer or the District Animal Husbandry Office. In many states, you can also request through the NADCP helpline or the state Pashu Arogya Mela portal.

5. I have a Gir cow with high milk yield. How do I register as a breeder?

Contact your State Animal Husbandry Department and the nearest Gokul Gram. You may qualify for registration as an approved breeder, which allows you to sell animals at better prices through E-Pashu Haat.
