UAN Activation & EPF Login Guide 2026 — EPFO Unified Portal

UAN (Universal Account Number) is your unique 12-digit number for EPF. It stays constant across employers — even when you change jobs, your PF accounts are linked to the same UAN. Activating UAN is the first step to manage your EPF online.


How to Get Your UAN

Your UAN is provided by your employer. Sources:

Find UAN via Mobile Number:

  1. Go to unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in
  2. Click "Know Your UAN"
  3. Enter registered mobile number + OTP
  4. Enter PAN or Aadhaar + DOB
  5. UAN displayed

Step-by-Step: UAN Activation

  1. Go to unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in
  2. Click "Activate UAN"
  3. Enter:
    • UAN number
    • Aadhaar number (or PAN or Member ID)
    • Name, date of birth
    • Mobile number (registered with Aadhaar or employer)
  4. OTP verification on mobile
  5. Set password (8+ characters, mix of letters/numbers/symbols)
  6. UAN activated → Login with UAN + password

Aadhaar must be linked for online PF withdrawal:

  1. Login to EPFO portal → "Manage""KYC"
  2. Select "Aadhaar" from document list
  3. Enter Aadhaar number + name (exactly as on Aadhaar)
  4. Submit → Employer approves → UIDAI verifies
  5. Status: "Approved" shown after employer verification

Some employers auto-approve. Others may take 3–7 days.


Required for withdrawals + for TDS calculation:

  1. EPFO portal → "Manage""KYC"
  2. Select "PAN"
  3. Enter PAN + name → Submit
  4. Auto-verified within 24–48 hours
  5. Status: "Digitally Approved"

Required for PF withdrawal (money goes here):

  1. EPFO portal → "Manage""KYC"
  2. Select "Bank"
  3. Enter: Bank name + IFSC code + Account number
  4. Submit → Employer approves
  5. Status: "Approved" after employer verification

Check EPF Balance via UAN Portal

After UAN activation:

  1. Login to EPFO portal
  2. "View""Passbook"
  3. Member passbook shows:
    • Employee share (your PF)
    • Employer share (employer PF contribution)
    • Monthly contributions
    • Interest credited
    • Total balance

Frequently Asked Questions

I changed jobs — does my UAN change? No — UAN remains constant throughout your career. Your new employer adds a new Member ID under the same UAN. Previous PF balance links to the new employer's PF. UAN is truly universal.

My employer deducts PF but I don't have UAN — what to do? Employer must provide UAN when registering you on EPFO. Ask HR for your UAN. If they haven't generated it: Employer is violating EPFO rules. Raise complaint at EPFO portal or on Shram Suvidha portal.

Can I have two UAN numbers? No — one person should have only one UAN. If two UANs exist (can happen due to employer error): Contact EPFO at 1800-118-005 to merge. Multiple UANs can cause issues with PF withdrawal and transfer.

I activated UAN but passbook shows ₹0 — why? Passbook takes 24–48 hours to populate after activation. Also: If employer hasn't deposited PF for the current month, current month won't show. Allow 2–3 days after end of month for contributions to appear.

UAN linked to old mobile number — how to update? Mobile update requires physical visit to EPFO office (or through employer's portal). Online mobile update is not available to prevent fraud. Visit regional EPFO office with Aadhaar + UAN + new mobile SIM.
