PM Ujjwala Yojana: Apply for Free LPG Connection

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a flagship scheme launched in 2016 to provide free LPG connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. The scheme aims to replace unhealthy cooking fuels like firewood, coal and dung cakes with clean LPG. Under Ujjwala 2.0 (launched August 2021), the scheme was expanded with simplified documentation and free first refill.

• Adult woman from a BPL household listed in SECC-2011 (Socio Economic Caste Census)
• No existing LPG connection in any family member's name

In addition to SECC beneficiaries, the following categories are now eligible:

How to Apply for Ujjwala Yojana

Online Application

Step 1: Visit the Official Website

Go to pmuy.gov.in and click "Apply for New Connection."

Step 2: Select Your OMC

Choose your preferred LPG company — Indane (IOCL), HP Gas (HPCL) or Bharat Gas (BPCL).

Step 3: Fill the Application Form

Enter details:

• Full name (as per Aadhaar)
• Aadhaar number
• Date of birth
• Address
• Bank account number and IFSC
• Mobile number

Step 4: Upload Documents

Upload scanned copies of Aadhaar, ration card and photograph.

Step 5: Submit Application

Submit the form. You will receive an application reference number.

Step 6: Verification

The LPG distributor will verify your details against SECC data and Aadhaar.

Step 7: Connection Delivery

After verification, a cylinder, regulator and hose will be delivered to your home within 15-30 days.

Offline Application

1. Visit your nearest LPG distributor (Indane, HP Gas or Bharat Gas)
2. Ask for the Ujjwala Yojana application form (Form available free)
3. Fill the form and attach documents
4. Submit at the distributor's office
5. Distributor will process and deliver the connection

Important Tips

1. Only women can apply — The connection is issued in the name of an adult woman of the household.
2. One connection per household — Only one Ujjwala connection per family. Duplicate applications are rejected.

4. Free first refill — Under Ujjwala 2.0, the first refill cylinder is free. Book it immediately after installation.
