A caste certificate (जाति प्रमाण पत्र) is an essential document for citizens belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) in Uttar Pradesh. It is required for reservation benefits in education, government jobs, and various welfare schemes.

Types of Caste Certificates in UP

Note: In UP, the Tehsildar (तहसीलदार) is the primary issuing authority for caste certificates. For some categories, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) may also issue.

Eligibility

• The applicant must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.
• The applicant must belong to a caste listed under the SC, ST, or OBC category in the UP Government's official caste list.
• Both new applicants and renewals can apply online.
• There is no age restriction — certificates can be applied for minors through a parent or guardian.

Documents Required (आवश्यक दस्तावेज़)

Keep scanned copies (JPEG/PDF, under 100 KB each) of the following:

1. Aadhaar Card (आधार कार्ड) of the applicant
2. Family Register / Parivar Register (कुटुम्ब रजिस्टर / परिवार रजिस्टर नकल)
3. Previous Caste Certificate — if held by father, grandfather, or any family member
4. School Records — High School marksheet or Transfer Certificate showing father's name and caste

6. Self-declaration / Affidavit (शपथ पत्र) — in some cases
7. Ration Card — as additional address/family proof

Tip: If you don't have an older family caste certificate, a sworn affidavit and verification by the village head (Gram Pradhan) or ward member can substitute in most tehsils.

How to Apply Online via eSathi Portal (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Register on eSathi Portal

1. Visit https://esathi.up.gov.in.
2. Click "नवीन उपयोगकर्ता पंजीकरण" (New User Registration).
3. Fill in your name, date of birth, mobile number, and create a login ID and password.
4. Verify via OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
5. Log in with your new credentials.

Step 2: Select the Caste Certificate Service

1. After login, navigate to "आवेदन पत्र → सेवा चुनें".
2. Under the Revenue Department (राजस्व विभाग) section, select:
   • जाति प्रमाण पत्र (Caste Certificate)
3. Choose your district (जिला), tehsil (तहसील), and category (SC / ST / OBC).

Step 3: Fill the Application Form

1. Enter personal details: name, father's name, mother's name, date of birth, gender.
2. Enter address details: village/ward, block/tehsil, district, PIN code.
3. Enter caste name as per the official UP Government list.
4. Fill in additional details as prompted (occupation, purpose of certificate, etc.).

Step 4: Upload Documents

1. Upload scanned copies of all required documents.
2. Ensure each file is in JPEG or PDF format and under 100 KB.
3. Upload your passport-size photo as well.

1. Review the application and click "शुल्क भुगतान" (Fee Payment).

Step 6: Submit and Note Application Number

2. Go to "पूर्ण किये गए आवेदन" (Completed Applications).
3. Find your caste certificate application.
4. Click "प्रमाण पत्र डाउनलोड करें" (Download Certificate).
5. The certificate is a digitally signed PDF — valid for official use.
