Voter ID (officially EPIC — Electoral Photo Identity Card) is your right as an Indian citizen aged 18+. Since 2022, voter registration and updates are fully digitized through the Voter Service Portal (voters.eci.gov.in). Here's how to apply, update, and download your Voter ID.

Types of Voter ID Services

Who Can Apply for Voter ID?

• Indian citizen aged 18+ years (as of January 1 of the registration year)
• Residing at the declared address in India
• Not already a voter in another constituency
• NRI Indians: Can register in their constituency of origin (Form 6A)

Apply for New Voter ID Online

1. Go to voters.eci.gov.in (National Voter Service Portal)
2. Click "Register as New Voter" → "Form 6"
3. Login with mobile number → OTP
4. Fill Form 6:
   • Personal details (name, DOB, gender)
   • Current address details (must match proof)
   • Assembly constituency (auto-detected from address)
   • Upload documents
5. Upload:
   • Age proof (any one): Aadhaar, PAN, birth certificate, school certificate

3. OTP verification

Update/Correct Voter ID — Form 8

For name correction, DOB correction, or photo update:

1. voters.eci.gov.in → "Correction in Voter ID" → "Form 8"
2. Enter EPIC number + OTP
3. Select what to correct: Name / DOB / Photo
4. Upload supporting document (Aadhaar with correct details, for name/DOB)
5. Upload new photo (for photo update)
6. Submit → Reference number
7. BLO verifies → Correction made

Change Address on Voter ID — Form 8A / Form 6

If you moved within the same constituency (assembly): Form 8A

1. voters.eci.gov.in → Form 8A
2. Enter new address + upload new address proof
3. Constituency remains same — only address updated

If you moved to a different constituency: Delete + New Registration

1. Delete entry at old constituency: Form 7 (or it auto-deletes when new registration is verified)
2. Register at new constituency: Form 6
3. Your new Voter ID card is issued for the new constituency
4. You can only vote at the constituency where you're registered

NRI Voter Registration — Special Process

NRI Indian citizens can register as voters in their home constituency:

1. voters.eci.gov.in → "NRI Voter" → Form 6A

4. NRI voters must be physically present in India to vote (postal ballot for NRI not yet implemented for Lok Sabha)
