ABHA Health Locker Guide

Quick answer: ABHA is your digital health identity under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. A health locker / personal health records flow helps you link, view and manage health records from ABDM-enabled hospitals, labs and health apps, subject to consent.

ABHA does not automatically pull every old hospital record. The hospital or health facility must be part of the ABDM ecosystem and records must be linked with consent.

ABHA, ABHA Address and Health Locker

Term Meaning
ABHA number 14-digit Ayushman Bharat Health Account number
ABHA address Username-like health address, often ending in @abdm or a health locker suffix
Health locker / PHR app App or service used to store/view linked health records
Consent Permission to share or fetch health records
ABDM-enabled facility Hospital, lab or provider integrated with ABDM

If you only created ABHA but never linked a hospital or health app, your health records may not appear yet.

What You Can Use It For

  • View linked prescriptions, lab reports and discharge summaries
  • Maintain records in one place
  • Share records with a doctor after consent
  • Reduce repeated paperwork in ABDM-enabled facilities
  • Manage health data permissions

For creating ABHA, read ABHA Health ID Create Online.

How Health Record Linking Usually Works

  1. Create or log in with ABHA.
  2. Create/use an ABHA address.
  3. Use an ABDM-compatible health locker or health records app.
  4. Search or discover linked health facilities.
  5. Send or approve a linking request.
  6. Give consent for record fetch/share.
  7. View records after the facility shares them.

Exact labels vary by app and hospital system.

Why Records May Not Show

Common reasons:

  • Hospital or lab is not ABDM-enabled.
  • Your visit was not linked to your ABHA.
  • You used a different mobile number or ABHA address.
  • Consent request was not approved.
  • Facility has not pushed the record.
  • Sync delay after linking.
  • You are checking the wrong health locker app/account.

Troubleshooting: ABHA Health ID Not Working Fix.

Before approving a consent request:

  • Check who is requesting access.
  • Check what records are requested.
  • Check duration of access.
  • Avoid sharing ABHA login, OTP or passwords.
  • Revoke access if you no longer want sharing.
  • Do not upload sensitive reports to unofficial apps.

ABHA is useful only when consent is understood clearly. Do not approve requests casually.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ABHA Health Locker the same as ABHA number?

No. ABHA number is your health identity. A health locker or PHR app is where linked records may be viewed and managed.

Will all my old hospital records appear automatically?

No. Records appear only if the provider is ABDM-enabled and the record is linked/shared through the proper consent flow.

Can a doctor see my ABHA records without permission?

ABDM is designed around consent-based record sharing. Do not approve requests unless you understand who is asking and why.

Is ABHA mandatory for treatment?

ABHA is useful for digital health records, but treatment rules vary by hospital and scheme. Do not confuse it with PM-JAY eligibility.

What if records are not showing?

Check the hospital's ABDM status, confirm the same ABHA/address was used, approve consent and wait for sync. If still missing, contact the facility or ABDM support.
