What is EPFO Nomination?
EPFO nomination is the process of designating a person (nominee) who will receive your Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) balance, Employee Pension Scheme (EPS) benefits, and Employee Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme (EDLI) benefits in the event of your death.
Updating your nomination is crucial because:
- Without a valid nomination, your family may face delays in claiming your PF money
- Outdated nominations (naming parents when you're married) can cause legal complications
- E-nomination is now mandatory โ Physical Form 2 nominations are being phased out
Who Can Be a Nominee?
If You Are Married
- Spouse (husband/wife)
- Children (minor or adult)
- Both spouse and children can be co-nominees with percentage allocation
- Parents cannot be nominees if you are married (unless spouse and children are legally excluded)
If You Are Unmarried
- Father
- Mother
- Brother or sister (if parents are not alive)
- After marriage, you must update the nomination to include your spouse
