What is EPF (Employees' Provident Fund)?

How to Check EPF/PF Balance Online
Method 1: EPFO Member Passbook (Recommended)
- Visit https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in
- Enter your UAN (Universal Account Number)
- Enter your passbook password (set during UAN activation)
- Enter the captcha and click "Login"
- Select your Member ID (if you have multiple)
- Your complete EPF passbook with monthly contributions will be displayed
- You can see: employee share, employer share, pension contribution, and total balance
- Click "Download Passbook" for a PDF copy
Method 2: EPFO Unified Member Portal
- Go to https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
- Log in with your UAN and password
- Click on "View" â "Passbook"
- You will be redirected to the passbook portal
- This portal also lets you check claim status, KYC details, and service history
Method 3: UMANG App
- Download the UMANG app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store
- Register/login with your mobile number
- Search for "EPFO" and select it
- Choose "View Passbook" or "Track Claim"
- Enter your UAN and verify via OTP
- Your EPF balance and passbook details will be shown

- Give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your UAN-registered mobile number
- You will receive an SMS with your latest EPF balance and last contribution details
- Your UAN must be activated and mobile number linked

- Example:
EPFOHO 100123456789 - You will receive your PF balance details via SMS
- If you prefer a specific language, send: EPFOHO UAN ENG (for English), replace ENG with HIN (Hindi), TAM (Tamil), etc.
How to Check PF Claim Status
- Visit https://www.epfindia.gov.in
- Click on "Services" â "Know Your Claim Status"
- Enter your UAN number and captcha
- Click "Search"
- Your claim status will show: Claim submitted â Under process â Settled â Amount credited
- Alternatively, log in to the Unified Member Portal and go to "Track Claim Status" under the "Online Services" tab

Common Issues and Fixes
1. "UAN Not Activated" Error
- Your employer must first generate your UAN
- Once generated, activate it at the Unified Member Portal using your UAN, Aadhaar, and mobile number
- You need Aadhaar-linked mobile for OTP verification
2. Passbook Showing "No Records Found"
- Your employer may not have uploaded the latest ECR (Electronic Challan cum Return)
- Wait until the 15th of the following month and check again
- Contact your employer's HR to confirm PF deposit
3. Forgot UAN or Password
- Forgot UAN: Visit the Unified Member Portal â click "Know Your UAN" â enter Aadhaar/PAN/member ID to retrieve it
