How to Change LPG Gas Agency: Transfer Process

If you have relocated to a new city or want to switch your LPG gas distributor, you can transfer your connection from one agency to another. This process works for transfers within the same OMC (e.g., one Indane dealer to another) or across OMCs (e.g., Indane to HP Gas or Bharat Gas). This guide covers both scenarios.

When Do You Need to Transfer?

  • Relocation — You moved to a new city/area not served by your current distributor
  • Poor service — Delayed deliveries, rude behaviour or other issues with current dealer
  • Convenience — Another distributor is closer to your new address
  • Cross-OMC switch — You want to change from Indane to HP Gas or Bharat Gas (or vice versa)

Types of Transfer

1. Within Same OMC (e.g., Indane to Indane)

Called SVB Transfer (Subscription Voucher Book transfer). Your consumer number changes but the OMC remains the same.

2. Across OMCs (e.g., Indane to HP Gas)

Called Inter-OMC Transfer or Portability. You surrender your connection with one company and get a new connection with another. This is not a direct transfer but a surrender-and-reapply process.

Documents Required

  • KYC documents — Aadhaar card, PAN card or Voter ID
  • New address proof — Aadhaar with updated address, electricity bill, rent agreement
  • Existing SVB (Subscription Voucher Book) — Your current LPG passbook
  • Aadhaar-linked bank account details — For DBT subsidy transfer
  • Passport-size photograph — 1-2 copies
  • Surrender certificate (for cross-OMC transfer) — Issued by the old company

How to Transfer LPG Connection Within Same OMC

Step 1: Inform Your Current Distributor

Visit or call your current LPG distributor and inform them about the transfer. Submit a written request for transfer.

Step 2: Get NOC / Transfer Certificate

The current distributor will issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) or transfer-out slip after:

  • Verifying no pending dues
  • Collecting any empty cylinders with regulator
  • Noting down your consumer details

Step 3: Contact the New Distributor

Visit the new distributor in your area with:

  • Transfer certificate/NOC from old distributor
  • KYC documents
  • New address proof
  • Passport photo

Step 4: Fill the Transfer Form

Fill the SVB transfer form at the new distributor's office.

Step 5: Get New SVB and Consumer Number

The new distributor will process the transfer and issue:

  • New SVB (passbook)
  • New consumer number
  • New cylinder and regulator (if you surrendered old ones)

Ensure your Aadhaar and bank account are linked with the new connection on mylpg.in for subsidy.

How to Transfer Across OMCs (Indane to HP Gas / Bharat Gas)

Step 1: Surrender Old Connection

Visit your current distributor and request connection surrender. Submit:

  • Written surrender request
  • SVB/passbook
  • Empty cylinder(s) with regulator and tube

Step 2: Collect Surrender Certificate

After returning equipment, collect:

  • Surrender certificate
  • Security deposit refund (₹1,450-1,800 per cylinder, transferred to bank account within 15-30 days)

Step 3: Apply for New Connection

Visit a distributor of the new OMC and apply for a fresh connection with:

  • Surrender certificate from old OMC
  • KYC documents and address proof
  • Passport photos
  • Bank account details

Step 4: Pay New Security Deposit

Pay the security deposit for the new connection (₹1,450-1,800 per cylinder + regulator deposit).

Step 5: Receive New Connection

You will receive your new cylinder, regulator and SVB within 7-15 days.

Online Transfer Process via mylpg.in

For within-OMC transfers, some steps can be initiated online:

  1. Visit mylpg.in
  2. Login with your LPG consumer number
  3. Go to "Request for Transfer" or "Portability"
  4. Enter new area details
  5. Select a new distributor
  6. Submit the request
  7. Visit the new distributor with documents to complete the process

Note: Online initiation is available for some OMCs. The physical visit to the new distributor is still required.

Double Cylinder Connection

If you use LPG frequently, you can apply for a second cylinder (double bottle connection):

  1. Visit your current distributor
  2. Request double cylinder connection
  3. Pay additional security deposit (₹1,450-1,800)
  4. No additional documents needed if KYC is already done
  5. Second cylinder will be delivered within 7-15 days

Important Tips

  1. Clear all dues before initiating transfer — pending bills or advance bookings must be settled.
  2. Return equipment — Empty cylinders, regulator and tube must be returned for surrender.
  3. Update Aadhaar address first if you've relocated. See our Aadhaar address change guide.
  4. Keep surrender certificate safe — It is needed for the new connection and security deposit refund.
  5. Check dealer ratings — Ask neighbours about service quality before choosing a new distributor.
