What is IGNDPS?

Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) is a centrally sponsored social assistance scheme under NSAP (National Social Assistance Programme) providing monthly cash support to BPL persons with severe disabilities aged 18 to 79 years.

The central government provides ₹300/month, with state governments adding supplementary amounts. Combined pensions range from ₹500 to ₹1,000+/month depending on the state.

Key features:

  • ₹300/month central government contribution
  • States add top-ups to bring total to ₹500–₹1,000/month
  • For persons with severe disability (80%+ disability) under the original scheme
  • Many states also include persons with 40%+ disability under state-funded components
  • DBT to Aadhaar-linked bank account

State variations: Many states run integrated disability pension schemes combining IGNDPS central funds with state funds. The eligibility and amount vary. Check your state's social welfare portal.

Who is Eligible?

  • Age: 18 to 79 years (80+ receive old age pension instead)
  • Must be from a BPL family
  • Not receiving any other government disability pension
  • Must have a government-issued disability certificate

IGNDPS vs State Disability Pension — What's Different?

The IGNDPS (central) provides ₹300/month strictly for 80%+ disability and BPL. Most states run parallel or enhanced schemes that include 40%+ disability and provide higher amounts. When you apply at the state portal, you typically access the combined central + state benefit without needing to separately identify the central vs state components.

Check Payment Status

  1. Go to nsap.nic.in
  2. Select "Reports" → your state → beneficiary search
  3. Enter Aadhaar to check payment status

Or check your state-specific disability pension portal.

NSAP Pension Comparison

Pension Beneficiary Age Central Amount
IGNOAPS BPL elderly 60–79 (₹200), 80+ (₹500) ₹200–500
IGNWPS BPL widows 40–79 ₹300
IGNDPS BPL disabled 18–79 ₹300

Only one NSAP pension per person — if eligible for multiple, the state determines which one applies (usually the one providing the most benefit).

Frequently Asked Questions

I have 50% disability. Am I eligible for IGNDPS?

Central IGNDPS strictly requires 80%+ disability. However, your state scheme may cover 40%+ disability with state funds. Apply at your state's social welfare portal — the system identifies the applicable pension type.

Can I get disability pension AND work?

Yes — disability pension is not employment-linked. You can receive the pension regardless of whether you work.

No — only certificates from government CMOs, government hospitals, and authorized government medical boards are accepted for pension purposes.
