What is Bhagyalakshmi Scheme?
Bhagyalakshmi is a Government of Karnataka scheme aimed at empowering the girl child in BPL families. Under this scheme, a ₹25,000 savings bond is deposited in the name of the girl child at birth. This amount matures when the girl turns 18 years old, growing to approximately ₹1,00,000 or more due to interest accumulation.
Additionally, the scheme provides annual scholarships for the girl's education at various stages.
Who is Eligible?
- Family: Must be a BPL (Below Poverty Line) family
- Birth: The girl must be born on or after the scheme's launch date in a government or recognized hospital
- Registration: Birth must be registered within one year
