What is Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai?
Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (Kalaignar Women's Entitlement Allowance) is a monthly financial support scheme launched by the Tamil Nadu government in September 2023, providing ₹1,000 per month directly to the bank accounts of eligible women household heads in Tamil Nadu.
Named after the late Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi (Kalaignar), the scheme aims to give women economic independence and support household expenses. It covers over 1 crore women in Tamil Nadu — both rural and urban.
Who is Eligible?
- Women who are the head of the household
- Must be a resident of Tamil Nadu
- Age 21 years and above
- Annual family income must be less than ₹2.5 lakh
- Must have a family ration card (Tamil Nadu smart card or PDS card)
Not eligible:
- Women government employees or ex-government employees receiving pension
- Women paying income tax
- Families with annual income above ₹2.5 lakh

My ration card is in my mother's name. Can I apply separately?
