What is Lakshmir Bhandar?

Lakshmir Bhandar is West Bengal's flagship financial support scheme for women, launched in August 2021. It provides monthly financial support directly to the bank accounts of women household heads across West Bengal:

  • ₹500/month for General category women
  • ₹1,000/month for SC/ST category women

The scheme currently covers over 2 crore women in West Bengal, making it one of the largest direct benefit transfer schemes for women in any Indian state. The payment is made on the first working day of each month directly to the beneficiary's bank account.

Eligibility

To qualify for Lakshmir Bhandar:

  • Must be a woman and the head of the household (or a woman member — eligibility has been extended in some cases)
  • Age between 25 and 60 years
  • Must be a legal resident of West Bengal
  • Family income must be below ₹1.5 lakh per year for general category
  • Aadhaar must be linked to the bank account

Not eligible:

  • Women who are government employees or receiving any government pension
  • Women in families where any member is an income taxpayer
  • Families holding more than 2.5 acres of land in urban areas or more than 5 acres in rural areas (in some guidelines)

How to Apply

Through Duare Sarkar Camps (Primary Method)

The West Bengal government runs Duare Sarkar ("Government at Doorstep") camps periodically across all blocks and urban wards. These camps are specifically for registering beneficiaries under 30+ schemes including Lakshmir Bhandar.

  1. Watch for Duare Sarkar camp announcements in your area (via local panchayat, news, or the official website)
  2. Visit the camp at the designated venue and time
  3. Carry your documents (see below)
  4. Camp operator registers you and submits the application
  5. You receive an acknowledgement

Note: Duare Sarkar camps are held periodically. When active, they are the fastest way to apply. Check the WB government website for camp schedules.

Online Application

  1. Visit socialsecurity.wb.gov.in
  2. Look for "Lakshmir Bhandar" under schemes
  3. Register / log in with your Aadhaar / mobile
  4. Fill the application form with family and bank details
  5. Upload documents and submit

Through District Administration

  • Visit your local BDO (Block Development Office) in rural areas
  • Visit the SDO (Sub-Divisional Office) or Municipality office in urban areas
  • Submit application with documents

  2. Aadhaar-linked bank account in the woman's own name
  3. Residence proof in West Bengal — ration card, voter ID, or domicile certificate
  4. Caste certificate (for SC/ST — to get ₹1,000/month instead of ₹500)

  2. Go to the beneficiary list section → select your district/block/GP/ward
  3. Search for your name

What If Payment Stopped?

If you were receiving Lakshmir Bhandar but payment stopped:

  • Aadhaar-bank linking issue: Visit your bank branch and ensure Aadhaar is linked to the account
  • Account changed: Update your new bank account at the SDO/BDO office or Duare Sarkar camp
  • Eligibility review: You may have been removed after a verification round. Visit your block office with documents

Swasthya Sathi + Lakshmir Bhandar Connection

West Bengal's Swasthya Sathi health scheme (₹5 lakh health insurance) and Lakshmir Bhandar are often applied together at Duare Sarkar camps. Having a Swasthya Sathi card often helps in processing the Lakshmir Bhandar application faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a widow or divorced woman apply?

Yes — widows, divorced women, and abandoned women are explicitly eligible and are often given priority. They are also eligible regardless of age (the 25-year minimum may be waived for widows).

Can two women in the same household both get Lakshmir Bhandar?

Typically, one application per household is processed. Only one woman — the household head — is the primary beneficiary.

I applied but didn't receive any money. What to do?

First, verify your application status at socialsecurity.wb.gov.in. If approved but no payment, ensure Aadhaar is linked to your bank. If the application is still pending, visit your local BDO/SDO office.

Is the ₹1,000 amount for SC women different from general?

Yes — SC/ST women receive ₹1,000/month, while general category women receive ₹500/month. The difference is funded by the state government.

Does Lakshmir Bhandar affect other schemes like MGNREGS or pension?

No — Lakshmir Bhandar can be received along with MGNREGS wages and other schemes. The only restriction is that current government employees and those receiving existing government pensions are not eligible.

My name is on the list but payment is not coming. What to do?

Visit the SDO/BDO office and check if your Aadhaar is properly seeded with your bank account (NPCI mapper). Update if not done. Contact the state grievance cell at socialsecurity.wb.gov.in.
