What is MahaDBT Scholarship Portal?

MahaDBT (Maharashtra Direct Benefit Transfer) is the unified portal at mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in where students can apply for all Maharashtra government scholarships under one roof. Instead of visiting multiple department offices, students apply once and the system routes the application to the relevant department.

Over 30 different scholarship schemes are available on MahaDBT, covering:

  • SC (Scheduled Caste) students
  • ST (Scheduled Tribe) students
  • OBC / VJNT / SBC students
  • EWS (Economically Weaker Section)
  • Minority students (Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi, Jain)
  • Differently-abled students

Scholarships range from pre-matric (Class 1โ€“10) to post-matric (Class 11 to PhD and professional courses).

Common Problems and Fixes

OBC Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate missing

NCL certificate is needed every year for OBC/VJNT/SBC students โ€” it cannot be more than 1 year old. Get a fresh NCL certificate from your Tehsildar before applying.

Aadhaar name mismatch with caste certificate

The name on Aadhaar must match caste/income certificates exactly. If different, get the documents corrected at the issuing authority before applying.

Institution not registered on MahaDBT

Your college must be registered on the portal. Ask the college accounts or scholarship department to register. Without registration, student applications cannot be forwarded.

Payment not received despite sanctioned status

Verify that your bank account is in your name and Aadhaar is linked to it. Check PFMS for payment status. Raise a grievance if not credited within 30 days of sanctioning.

Application rejected โ€” income above limit

Ensure your income certificate is from Maharashtra and shows the correct annual income. If income was calculated incorrectly, get a revised income certificate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for more than one scholarship on MahaDBT?

No โ€” you can only receive one scholarship at a time. The portal allows you to see eligible schemes, but once sanctioned under one, you cannot receive another simultaneously.

My college is in another state (e.g., Pune student studying in Delhi). Can I apply?

Post-matric scholarships cover studies outside Maharashtra only for courses not available in Maharashtra. You will need a certificate from Maharashtra's university/government confirming the course is not available in the state.

I missed the last date. Can I apply now?

Late applications are generally not accepted. Watch for any grace period announcements on the MahaDBT portal or Maharashtra government websites.

Is the scholarship taxable?

No โ€” scholarship amounts received under government scholarship schemes are exempt from income tax under Section 10(16) of the Income Tax Act.

I am an SC student โ€” is there an income limit?

For SC post-matric scholarship, the income limit is โ‚น2.5 lakh per year. For some central government SC scholarships, there may be no income limit. Check the specific scheme.

How do I get the Swadhaar Gruh Yojana benefit?

Swadhaar is for SC/NavBauddha students who cannot get admission to government hostels. Apply on MahaDBT after confirming that no government hostel seat is available for you.
