What is Maharashtra Saur Krishi Pump Yojana?

Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Pump Yojana is Maharashtra's solar irrigation pump scheme that provides 3HP and 5HP solar pumps at 95% government subsidy to farmers โ€” especially those without electricity connections in remote areas. Implemented through MSEDCL (Mahadiscom) under PM KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan).

Key Benefits

Feature Details
Subsidy 95% (for SC/ST farmers); 90% (general farmers)
Pump capacity 3HP (AC/DC), 5HP, 7.5HP
Eligible farmers Priority to farmers without electricity connection
Complete system Solar panels + pump + motor + controller
Maintenance 5-year comprehensive maintenance by vendor

Farmer Contribution

Category Farmer Pays
SC/ST farmers 5% of total cost
General small/marginal farmers 10% of total cost
General large farmers Varies (may be higher)

For a 3HP solar pump with approximate total cost โ‚น2.5 lakh, SC/ST farmer pays only ~โ‚น12,500.

Who is Eligible?

  • Maharashtra farmer with agricultural land
  • Priority 1: Farmers who are pending electricity connection waitlisted for 5+ years
  • Priority 2: Farmers with land on a canal command area
  • Priority 3: Farmers with no electricity pump / dependent on diesel
  • No electricity pending application required for SC/ST in remote areas

Documents Required

  1. Aadhaar card
  2. 7/12 extract (satbara) โ€” land ownership and area
  3. 8A extract โ€” khata proof
  4. Caste certificate (for SC/ST)
  5. Bank passbook โ€” Aadhaar-linked
  6. Photograph of water source (borewell, open well, canal)

How to Apply

Step 1 โ€” Online Application

Visit mahadiscom.in โ†’ "Saur Krishi Pump" or the state portal:

  • Register with Aadhaar
  • Fill farm and water source details
  • Upload 7/12, 8A, Aadhaar, bank proof
  • Submit

Alternatively, apply at the MSEDCL Sub-Division Office or Agriculture Office in your tehsil.

Step 2 โ€” Field Survey

MSEDCL engineer visits your field to:

  • Verify land and water source
  • Assess pump capacity requirement
  • Confirm solar panel mounting space

Step 3 โ€” Pay Farmer Share

After survey approval:

  • Pay your 5โ€“10% share (online or at MSEDCL office)
  • Receipt issued

Step 4 โ€” Installation

Frequently Asked Questions

1. I applied for electricity connection 8 years ago and it never came. Am I priority 1?

Yes. Farmers with pending electricity applications are given top priority. Bring your electricity connection application number to the MSEDCL office to verify your priority status.

2. Can I use the solar pump for drip irrigation?

Yes. Solar pump output can be connected to drip or sprinkler irrigation systems. This combination maximizes water and energy efficiency. Many farmers combine solar pump with drip irrigation subsidy (PM KUSUM + drip subsidy under PMKSY-PDMC).

3. What if the solar pump breaks down after 2 years? Who repairs it?

The installing vendor provides 5-year comprehensive maintenance under the scheme. Report breakdown to MSEDCL or the vendor โ€” it is repaired at no extra cost within the warranty period.

4. The water level in my well drops in summer. Will the solar pump still work?

The pump motor switches off automatically if water level drops below the pump inlet (dry-run protection is standard). The pump will restart when water level rises. This protects the motor from damage.

5. Can I sell excess solar energy back to the grid?

This scheme is for a standalone off-grid pump โ€” it does not connect to the grid for energy export. To sell solar power to the grid, the PM KUSUM Component A (solar feeder/plant) is different. This scheme is purely for irrigation pumping.
