What is MSME / Udyam Registration?

MSME stands for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. The Government of India provides a unique identification called Udyam Registration to MSMEs through a fully online, paperless, and free of cost process based on Aadhaar self-declaration.

The Udyam Registration replaced the earlier Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) system from July 1, 2020. The registration gives you a permanent Udyam Registration Number and an e-certificate called the Udyam Certificate.

MSME Classification Criteria

The current classification is based on investment in plant & machinery/equipment AND annual turnover:

Manufacturing & Service Enterprises

Category Investment Annual Turnover
Micro Up to ₹1 crore Up to ₹5 crore
Small Up to ₹10 crore Up to ₹50 crore
Medium Up to ₹50 crore Up to ₹250 crore

Both criteria must be satisfied. The enterprise is classified based on the higher of the two thresholds. For example, if investment is Micro but turnover is Small, the enterprise is classified as Small.

Who Can Register?
