How to Get Admission in NIOS – Step-by-Step

NIOS admission is done entirely online through the SDMIS (Student Data Management Information System) portal. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit the Official Portal

Go to sdmis.nios.ac.in and click on "Online Admission" for the relevant stream (Stream 1 for block admission or Stream 2 for on-demand).

Step 2: Register and Fill the Form

  • Create an account with your mobile number and email

NIOS Exam Pattern

NIOS follows a flexible examination system unlike traditional boards:

1. Is the NIOS certificate valid for government jobs?

Yes. NIOS certificates are fully recognised by the Government of India, UGC, AICTE, and all state governments. You can apply for any government job, competitive exam (UPSC, SSC, banking), or university admission with an NIOS certificate.

2. Can I appear for NIOS exams without attending classes?

Yes. NIOS is an open schooling system — there is no mandatory attendance. You study at home using NIOS study material (available free online) and appear for exams at your assigned centre.

3. How many times can I attempt the NIOS exam?
