What is PAHAL (DBTL)?

PAHAL (Pratyaksh Hastaantarit Laabh) โ€” also called DBTL (Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG) โ€” is the Government of India scheme where the LPG cooking gas subsidy is transferred directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account instead of being given as a discount on the cylinder price.

How it works:

  1. You pay the market price (non-subsidised price) for the LPG cylinder when you book/deliver
  2. Within a few days, the subsidy amount is credited to your bank account via DBT
  3. The net cost to you is: Market price minus subsidy = subsidised price

Current LPG Subsidy Status (2024)

Important: The government reduced LPG subsidies for domestic consumers significantly from 2023โ€“2024. In many periods, the subsidy transferred is โ‚น0 or very small for general consumers. However, the PM Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries continue to receive higher subsidies (โ‚น200โ€“300 per cylinder in 2024).

Check the current subsidy at mylpg.in or your oil company's portal.

If you are not receiving any subsidy in your bank account, first check if your Aadhaar is properly linked to both your LPG connection and your bank account:

Online:

  1. Go to your LPG company's portal:
  2. Log in with your Consumer Number
  3. Go to "PAHAL / DBTL" or "Link Aadhaar"
  4. Enter your Aadhaar number
  5. Verify with OTP

At LPG Distributor:

  • Visit your nearest LPG distributor
  • Fill the PAHAL enrollment form
  • Submit your Aadhaar copy
  • They will link your Aadhaar to your LPG connection

Your bank account must be Aadhaar-linked (NPCI mapper seeded) to receive DBT:

  1. Visit your bank branch
  2. Submit Aadhaar copy with account details
  3. Or update via net banking โ†’ Aadhaar seeding section

Check at mylpg.in:

  1. Enter your Consumer Number
  2. Check "PAHAL Status" โ€” should show "Active" for Aadhaar link
  3. Check bank account linked for DBT

Check LPG Subsidy Status Online

  1. Go to mylpg.in
  2. Enter your LPG Consumer Number and registered mobile
  3. View subsidy history โ€” amount transferred per booking
  4. Or check your bank account statement โ€” subsidy appears as "LPG SUBSIDY" or your oil company name

Why is Subsidy โ‚น0 or Not Coming?

Common reasons:

  1. Aadhaar not linked to LPG or bank account
  2. Subsidy suspended โ€” if annual income of family member is above โ‚น10 lakh (under "GiveItUp" campaign)
  3. Government subsidy rate is โ‚น0 for the period (market price below "subsidised" rate)
  4. New connection โ€” first 2โ€“3 deliveries may not have subsidy while PAHAL activation completes
  5. Bank account mismatch โ€” wrong account number linked

GiveItUp โ€” Voluntary Subsidy Surrender

If any earning member of your household earns above โ‚น10 lakh/year or pays income tax, they should voluntarily surrender LPG subsidy ("GiveItUp"). You can check if your subsidy is suspended due to this at mylpg.in.

If your subsidy was mistakenly suspended, you can request reinstatement via the portal.

PM Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) โ€” Higher Subsidy for BPL Women

If you received your LPG connection under PM Ujjwala Yojana (free connection for BPL women), you may be eligible for additional subsidy of โ‚น200โ€“300 per cylinder. Check at pmuy.gov.in or your distributor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days after delivery does the subsidy arrive?

Typically 3โ€“7 working days after the cylinder is delivered. Check your bank account or mylpg.in transaction history.

I booked a cylinder 2 weeks ago but no subsidy. What to do?

  1. Check mylpg.in for PAHAL status
  2. Ensure Aadhaar is linked to both LPG and bank
  3. Contact your LPG distributor
  4. Call your oil company helpline:
    • Indane (IOCL): 1800-233-3555
    • Bharat Gas (BPCL): 1800-22-4344
    • HP Gas (HPCL): 1800-233-3555

My family has 2 LPG connections (different names). Do both get subsidy?

Only one subsidised connection per family address is allowed. The second connection at the same address may not receive subsidy. Surrender the extra connection if you don't use both.

Can I transfer subsidy to another bank account?

Yes โ€” you can change the linked bank account at mylpg.in or your distributor. Allow 2โ€“3 cycles for the change to activate.
