How to Reapply After Rejection

Step 1: Fix the Issue

Based on the rejection reason, prepare the correct documents:

For name mismatch:

  • Ensure name is identical across all documents
  • If names differ, get an affidavit or gazette notification for name change
  • Use the name exactly as on your Aadhaar/birth certificate

For address proof issues:

  • Use a recent utility bill (less than 3 months old)
  • Aadhaar card with current address
  • Bank statement with current address
  • If rented: rent agreement + Annexure F from landlord

For DOB proof:

  • Birth certificate (preferred)
  • 10th/SSLC marksheet
  • PAN card
  • Aadhaar card

For photo issues:

  • Get fresh passport-size photos (2x2 inches)
  • White background, 80% face coverage
  • No glasses, no smile, ears visible

Specific Rejection Fixes

Rejected Due to ECR/ECNR Error

ECR (Emigration Check Required) vs ECNR (Emigration Check Not Required):

You qualify for ECNR if you have:

  • 10th pass certificate or higher education
  • Income tax assessed
  • Professional degree
  • Government servant
  • Age 50+ or under 18

If you selected wrong category, reapply with the correct one and attach the qualifying document.

Rejected Due to Missing Annexure

Common annexures required:

Annexure When Required
Annexure A Minor's passport — signed by both parents
Annexure C Minor with single parent/guardian
Annexure D Government employee — NOC from employer
Annexure E Urgent/Tatkal — verification certificate
Annexure F Proof of present address — landlord's declaration
Annexure H Prior intimation letter (duplicate passport)
Annexure I Identity certificate from employer

Download annexures from passportindia.gov.in → Downloads.

Rejected Due to Adverse Police Verification

If police verification came back adverse:

  1. Find out the specific reason — contact RPO
  2. If address couldn't be verified: Provide additional address proof and request re-verification
  3. If criminal case exists: Provide court documents showing case status. Passports can be issued even with pending cases (except certain crimes)
  4. If impersonation suspected: Visit RPO in person with original documents for personal identification
  5. You can appeal to the Chief Passport Officer

Fee for Reapplication

You need to pay the full fee again for a new application:

Application Type Normal Tatkal
Fresh (36 pages) ₹1,500 ₹3,500
Fresh (60 pages) ₹2,000 ₹4,000
Re-issue (36 pages) ₹1,500 ₹3,500
Re-issue (60 pages) ₹2,000 ₹4,000

Tips to Avoid Rejection

  1. Double-check all details before submitting — name spelling, DOB, address
  2. Use same name across all documents
  3. Self-attest all photocopies — sign "Self-Attested" on each page
  4. Carry extra photographs to the PSK
  5. Bring originals + photocopies of every document
  6. Address proof must be recent — utility bills less than 3 months old
  7. Fill the form in CAPITAL LETTERS — reduces confusion
  8. Read the document checklist on the passport portal before your appointment
  9. Arrive early at PSK — rushing leads to mistakes
