Frequently Asked Questions

1. My first child was a girl. The second child is also a girl. Can I claim for both?

Check the current year's scheme notification — most versions cover up to the second girl child. The first girl is typically covered when born in a BPL family. For the second girl, apply again. Third girl child may not be covered.

2. I recently moved to Punjab from Haryana. Am I eligible?

Punjab residence is required. If you have been residing in Punjab and your name is in the Punjab BPL list, you may be eligible. New migrants may need 1–3 years of residence proof.

3. I don't have a BPL card but my family is poor. Can I still apply?

The scheme is specifically for BPL families. Without BPL card, you are not eligible for this scheme. However, check if your name appears in the state BPL database at the panchayat level.

4. The birth certificate is taking time. Can I apply without it?

No. Birth certificate is mandatory. Apply for the birth certificate immediately at the Gram Panchayat or CDPO office — they will issue it promptly. Then apply for the scheme benefit.

5. Is the ₹21,000 given all at once or in installments?

Generally, the amount is disbursed as a lump sum to the mother's bank account. Some scheme versions may have conditions or phased disbursement — confirm with the CDPO office.
