Frequently Asked Questions

Can tea garden workers in Assam get ration cards?

Yes โ€” tea garden workers are among the targeted groups for AAY/PHH cards. They should apply at the nearest Circle Office or CSC with employer letter, Aadhaar, and residence proof. Some tea gardens have in-house FPS operations.

I belong to a tribal community in Assam. Are there special provisions?

Yes โ€” Scheduled Tribe and Bodo families, especially in BTAD (Bodoland Territorial Area Districts) and hill districts, are given priority. Tribe certificate is required. Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs) are automatically eligible for AAY.

My family lives across two districts. Can we have separate ration cards?

Each separately residing household unit can have its own ration card. If family members live at different addresses (different towns/districts), they may apply as separate households.

Does ONORC work in Assam?

Yes โ€” Assam is part of One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC). Migrant workers from other states can use Aadhaar biometric authentication at Assam FPS shops. Assam residents working in other states can also do the same.
