What is PMKVY?

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is the flagship skill development scheme of the Government of India, launched under the Skill India Mission in 2015. It is managed by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

The scheme aims to provide free, industry-relevant skill training to Indian youth so they can earn a livelihood and contribute to the economy. Since its launch, PMKVY has trained over 1.4 crore candidates across India.

How to Enroll

Step 3: Choose a Training Center

Select a PMKVY-affiliated training center near you. Each center listing shows the course duration, timings, and batch start dates.

Step 4: Visit the Center with Documents

Go to the training center with the following documents:

• Aadhaar card
• Recent passport-size photographs
• Education certificates (if applicable)
• Bank account details (for receiving monetary reward)

Step 5: Complete Enrollment

The training center will verify your documents, complete biometric verification, and enroll you in the batch.

Certification

After completing the training, candidates must pass an assessment conducted by SSC-empanelled assessment agencies. The assessment includes:

• Theory test — Written or computer-based
• Practical test — Hands-on demonstration of skills learned

After Passing

• You receive an NSQF-aligned certificate recognized by the Government of India
• Certificate is digitally verifiable on the Skill India Digital portal
• Many employers accept PMKVY certificates for entry-level positions

If You Don't Pass

• You can retake the assessment (check with your training center for the next assessment date)
• Additional coaching may be provided by the center before reassessment

Financial Support

PMKVY provides several forms of financial support to candidates:

Monetary Reward

• Candidates who pass the assessment receive ₹500 per month during training (for select courses)
• A one-time reward of up to ₹8,000 is given on successful certification

Is PMKVY training really free?

Can I do PMKVY after graduation?

Yes. There is no upper education limit. Graduates, postgraduates, and even working professionals can enroll in PMKVY courses. The RPL component is especially useful for those already employed who want formal certification.

What is the difference between PMKVY and ITI?

Will I get a job after PMKVY training?

PMKVY training centers provide placement assistance, but a job is not guaranteed. Your chances depend on the course chosen, your performance, and local job market demand. Courses in IT, healthcare, and beauty & wellness tend to have better placement rates.

Can I enroll in more than one PMKVY course?

Yes, you can enroll in a different course after completing one. However, you cannot enroll in two courses simultaneously. Each course must be completed (or formally withdrawn from) before starting another.

Is PMKVY certificate valid for government jobs?

PMKVY certificates are NSQF-aligned and recognized by the Government of India. While they are valid credentials, specific government job eligibility depends on the job's requirements. The certificate is most useful for skill-based and contractual government positions.

How long does the PMKVY course take?
