Frequently Asked Questions

Is UMANG the same as the government's individual department apps?

UMANG integrates services from many departments. However, some departments have their own dedicated apps (like DigiLocker, mAadhaar, mParivahan) with more features. UMANG is best for quick access across multiple services.

Is UMANG secure? Can I trust it with my Aadhaar?

Yes — UMANG is an official Government of India app developed by NIC. Your data is not stored on UMANG servers when you access services — you are redirected to the respective department's API. Aadhaar linking is done via UIDAI's secure OTP.

I can't find a service I need on UMANG. What to do?

UMANG has a search bar — type the service name. If not found, the service may not be integrated yet. Use the direct government portal for that service.

Does UMANG work without internet?

No — UMANG requires internet connectivity to access government services. However, some downloaded documents (like e-Aadhaar once downloaded) can be viewed offline.

Is there a desktop/web version of UMANG?

Yes — web.umang.gov.in is the web version with the same services accessible from any browser.

Can senior citizens who don't use smartphones access UMANG?

UMANG has a basic mobile version. For non-smartphone users, CSC (Common Service Centres) provide assisted access to all these services — visit your nearest Jan Seva Kendra.
