What is UP BC Sakhi Yojana?

Uttar Pradesh Banking Correspondent Sakhi Yojana (BC Sakhi) is the UP government's scheme to appoint rural women as Banking Correspondents (BCs) — essentially mobile bank branches that bring financial services to the doorstep of rural households in UP villages.

Each "BC Sakhi" carries a smartphone with banking app, biometric device, and processes banking transactions (deposits, withdrawals, balance enquiries, PMJDY transactions, NREGA wages, DBT payments) directly in the village — eliminating the need for villagers to travel to the nearest bank branch.

Key benefits for the BC Sakhi:

  • ₹4,000/month stipend for first 6 months (to cover setup period)
  • Commission income on every transaction processed — sustainable long-term income
  • Free smartphone and equipment
  • ₹50,000 digital device support from BIPAHS (UP government)
  • Formal employment with social recognition

Who is Eligible to be a BC Sakhi?

  • Must be a woman from the village
  • Aged 18 to 50 years
  • Must be a member of a Gram Panchayat in UP
  • Should have passed Class 10 (Matric)
  • Must be literate with basic smartphone/digital skills (or willing to learn)
  • Preference given to: Women already in Self Help Groups (SHGs), women trained in digital literacy, women from NRLM

Income for BC Sakhi

Period Income
First 6 months ₹4,000/month (government stipend)
After 6 months Commission only (on transactions)

Commission structure (on transactions):

  • Withdrawal: ₹1–2 per ₹1,000
  • Deposit: ₹1–2 per ₹1,000
  • NREGA payment, DBT disbursement: higher commissions
  • Typical earning: ₹5,000–₹10,000/month after 6 months (depends on transaction volume)

Frequently Asked Questions

I am already in an SHG. Does that give me preference?

Yes — SHG members are given preference as they have existing community connections and often have some financial literacy training.

Is the ₹4,000 stipend guaranteed for 6 months even if transactions are low?

Yes — the stipend is a fixed government support for the first 6 months regardless of transaction volume, to help the BC Sakhi establish herself and build a customer base.

Can a man apply for BC Sakhi?

No — BC Sakhi is specifically for women. The "Sakhi" (friend) model is designed to build trust with rural women beneficiaries for financial services.

What if my Gram Panchayat already has a BC Sakhi?

Check for vacancies — if the existing BC Sakhi has left or the panchayat has expanded, new vacancies may open. Also, block-level SRLM may have openings for neighbouring villages.

Is this scheme only in rural UP?

Yes — BC Sakhi is specifically for rural Gram Panchayats in Uttar Pradesh. Urban wards are not covered under this scheme.
