Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1. What happens if I don't link Aadhaar with PAN?
Your PAN card becomes inoperative. You won't be able to file income tax returns, receive refunds, or carry out financial transactions that require PAN. To reactivate, you need to link Aadhaar and pay a ā¹1,000 fee. See our Aadhaar-PAN linking guide for details.
Q2. Can I link my mobile number with Aadhaar online?
No. After the Supreme Court's 2018 ruling, telecom companies cannot do Aadhaar-based e-KYC for SIM cards. To update your mobile number in Aadhaar, you must visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre in person.
Q3. My name in Aadhaar doesn't match my bank/PAN records. What should I do?
You need to fix the mismatch first. Either update your name in Aadhaar (via uidai.gov.in) or update your name in the other document. Aadhaar linking requires an exact name match in most systems.
Q4. Is Aadhaar-Voter ID linking mandatory? Will I lose my vote if I don't link?
No. The Election Commission has clarified that Aadhaar-Voter ID linking is completely voluntary. Your name will NOT be removed from the voter list if you don't link. You can refuse without giving any reason.
Q5. How do I check if my Aadhaar is already linked with my bank account?
- Check via net banking or mobile banking app under profile/KYC section
- Call your bank's customer care and ask
- Visit the branch with your Aadhaar and passbook
Q6. Can NRIs link Aadhaar with their Indian bank accounts?
Yes, if you have a valid Aadhaar number. NRIs can link Aadhaar with their NRE/NRO bank accounts by visiting the bank branch in India or through net banking (if the bank supports it).
Q7. I linked Aadhaar with my LPG but still not getting subsidy. What should I do?
Make sure your Aadhaar is also linked with your bank account (the same bank account registered with your LPG distributor). The subsidy flows through: LPG ā Aadhaar ā Bank Account. If any link is missing, the subsidy won't come.
