Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1: Is DDU-GKY only for BPL families?
It primarily targets poor rural households identified through SECC 2011 data. However, state implementation agencies may have flexibility in identifying beneficiaries through NRLM membership.
Q2: Can urban youth apply?
No. DDU-GKY is strictly for rural youth. Urban youth can apply under other schemes like PMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana) — see our Skill India guide.
Q3: Is placement guaranteed?
Training centres are mandated to place at least 70% of trained candidates in jobs with minimum wages. While not an individual guarantee, reputed centres maintain good placement records.
Q4: What is the minimum salary after placement?
The minimum salary must be at or above minimum wages as applicable (typically ₹6,000-₹10,000/month for entry-level positions, varying by sector and location).
Q5: Can women with children join residential training?
Some training centres have provisions for crèche facilities. Check with specific centres. The scheme encourages women's participation with a 33% reservation.
Q6: Is there any bond to serve after training?
No. There is no bond or commitment to serve a specific employer. You're free to change jobs after placement.
Q7: How is DDU-GKY different from PMKVY?
DDU-GKY targets rural poor youth with longer training (3-12 months) and guaranteed placement. PMKVY targets all youth (urban + rural) with shorter training (2-6 months) and focuses on certification. DDU-GKY is under Ministry of Rural Development; PMKVY under Ministry of Skill Development.
