Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Is IFoS the same as IAS?

2. Can arts graduates apply for IFoS?
No. IFoS requires a Bachelor's degree with at least one science subject (Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Geology, or Animal Husbandry) or a degree in Agriculture, Forestry, or Engineering.
3. Can I appear for both IAS and IFoS in the same year?
Yes. Since both share the same Prelims, you can apply for both. If you qualify Prelims, you can appear for both IAS Mains and IFoS Mains separately.
4. What is the salary of an IFoS officer?
IFoS officers start at Pay Level 10 (โน56,100 โ โน1,77,500 per month) under the 7th Pay Commission. With allowances, the starting in-hand salary is approximately โน80,000โโน1,00,000 per month, depending on posting location.

IFoS Prelims 2026 is scheduled for May 24, 2026, and IFoS Mains 2026 is expected to begin from November 22, 2026.
