What is Karnataka Raitha Siri Yojana?

Raitha Siri is Karnataka's personal accident insurance scheme for farmers that provides ₹2 lakh life insurance cover to farmers aged 18–70 who die or are permanently disabled due to accidents. The premium is paid by the Karnataka government — farmers pay nothing.

Key Benefits

Coverage Amount
Accidental death ₹2,00,000
Permanent total disability ₹2,00,000
Partial permanent disability As per disability percentage
Accidental hospitalization Up to ₹25,000 (treatment reimbursement)

Who is Covered?

  • Karnataka farmers registered in RTC (land records)
  • Age 18 to 70 years

    • Road accidents
    • Agricultural accidents (tractor rollover, machinery, well fall)
    • Lightning strike
    • Snake/animal bite
    • Drowning while farming

Automatic Coverage — No Application Needed

Unlike many schemes, Raitha Siri enrollment is automatic for farmers registered in Karnataka's land records (RTC/Pahani). The Karnataka government pays the group insurance premium to United India Insurance / empanelled insurer for all eligible farmers.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. My mother is a farmer and died in a road accident. How do I claim Raitha Siri?

Go to the District Agriculture Office in your district with: mother's death certificate, FIR/post-mortem report, her land records (RTC), her Aadhaar, and your Aadhaar as legal heir. File the claim within 90 days. The DAO will process.

2. My father was 72 and a farmer. Is he covered by Raitha Siri?

No. Raitha Siri covers farmers aged 18 to 70. A 72-year-old farmer has aged out of coverage.

3. We are tenant farmers (leased land). Are we covered?

Raitha Siri coverage is based on land ownership registration in the RTC (Record of Rights). Tenant farmers without land in their name may not be covered under this scheme. Check with the DAO.

4. My husband was hospitalized after a tractor accident. Can I claim treatment costs?

Yes. Hospitalization for agricultural accidents is covered up to ₹25,000. Submit hospital bills, discharge summary, FIR (if filed), and RTC to the DAO office within 30 days of discharge.

5. How do I know if my father's Raitha Siri premium has been paid by the government?

Raitha Siri is a group insurance scheme — you don't receive individual premium receipts. The government pays collectively for all eligible farmers. If your father was a registered farmer (land in his name, age 18–70), he is/was covered.
