What is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)?
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is the Government of India's flagship housing scheme launched in 2015 to provide affordable housing to economically weaker sections of society. The scheme aims to ensure "Housing for All" by providing financial assistance for building or buying homes.
PMAY has two components:
- PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U): For urban areas ā covers cities and towns
- PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G): For rural areas ā covers villages and small settlements
The scheme provides interest subsidies on home loans, direct financial assistance, and support for construction of pucca houses. See our PMAY Gramin vs Urban comparison guide for detailed differences.
