What is LIFE Mission?
LIFE (Livelihood, Inclusion, and Financial Empowerment) Mission is Kerala's flagship housing scheme to provide free houses to all homeless and landless families in the state. The scheme aims to make Kerala the first state in India with no homeless families. Houses are constructed either on the beneficiary's own land or on government-allotted land.
Who is Eligible?
- Homeless families ā living without a permanent shelter
- Families living in dilapidated houses that are unfit for habitation
- Landless families ā the government provides land along with the house
- Must be a resident of Kerala
- Must be identified in the LIFE beneficiary list prepared by the local Grama Panchayat/Municipality
- Income: Targeted at BPL and economically weaker section families

How to Apply
Step-by-Step Process
- Check the LIFE Beneficiary List: Visit lifemission.lsgkerala.gov.in or your local Panchayat office to check if your name is on the LIFE beneficiary list
- If not on the list: Submit an application to your Grama Panchayat/Municipality requesting inclusion
- Panchayat Verification: The local body verifies your housing status and eligibility
- Grama Sabha Approval: The beneficiary list is discussed and approved at the Grama Sabha (village assembly)
- Final List Published: The approved list is published by the Panchayat
- House Construction Begins: Once approved, construction starts either on your land or government-allotted land
- Funds Released in Installments: The financial assistance is released in stages as construction progresses
For Flats (Urban Areas)
- Apply at your local Municipality/Corporation
- If selected, you'll be allotted a flat in a LIFE apartment complex
- The flat is provided free of cost
Construction Process
- First Installment: Released at foundation stage
- Second Installment: Released at lintel level
- Third Installment: Released at roof level
- Final Installment: Released after completion
- The beneficiary participates in house design selection from approved models
Processing Time
- List Preparation: 3-6 months (Grama Sabha approval cycle)
- Construction: 6-12 months after approval
- Total Process: 1-2 years from application to house handover
