What is Krishak Bandhu?

Krishak Bandhu — meaning "Friend of Farmers" — is the West Bengal government's flagship agricultural support scheme providing ₹10,000 per year to all land-owning farmers as direct farm investment assistance — without any income limit.

Additionally, Krishak Bandhu provides death-cum-accidental insurance of ₹2 lakh per enrolled farmer.

Who is Eligible?

• All land-owning farmers in West Bengal with agricultural land
• Sharecroppers (bargadars) registered with WB Agriculture Department
• Land size: Minimum 1 bigha (approximately 0.33 acre) to qualify
• No income limit — all farmers regardless of size of holding
• Farmer must be 18–60 years for the insurance component

Not eligible:

• Government employees
• Income tax payers

How to Apply

Through Agriculture Department Office

Most Krishak Bandhu enrollments are done through:

1. Visit your local Block Agriculture Office or GP-level Agriculture Extension Officer
2. Show land records (record of rights) and Aadhaar
3. Get enrolled in the Krishak Bandhu beneficiary list

Krishak Bandhu Insurance — Claiming ₹2 Lakh

In case of farmer's death:

1. Family members should inform the local Block Agriculture Office within the specified time (typically 60 days)
2. Submit: Death certificate, farmer's Aadhaar/Krishak Bandhu ID, insurance claim form
3. The insurance amount (₹2 lakh) is paid to the nominee/legal heir

Frequently Asked Questions

I am a farmer but my land is very small (less than 1 bigha). Am I eligible?

Minimum land size for Krishak Bandhu is typically 1 bigha. Farmers with smaller plots may be enrolled under certain state provisions — check with your local Block Agriculture Officer.

I am a sharecropper (bargadar) but my registration is old. Is it still valid?

Registered sharecroppers are eligible. Bring your Barga certificate to the Block Agriculture Office to confirm and update your Krishak Bandhu enrollment.

My name appeared in the old beneficiary list but I'm not getting payments. What do I do?

Visit your Block Agriculture Office with your Krishak Bandhu ID/Aadhaar. Check if your bank account is correctly linked and Aadhaar-seeded. Payments may be on hold due to bank linkage issues.

The insurance amount of ₹2 lakh — who gets it?

The nominated family member (spouse/child/parent) receives the insurance amount. If no nominee was registered, the legal heir (as per inheritance law) receives it through a claim process.

Can I get both Krishak Bandhu and PM-Kisan simultaneously?

Yes — Krishak Bandhu is a state scheme; PM-Kisan is central. Both provide separate farm support. A West Bengal farmer can receive PM-Kisan ₹6,000/year AND Krishak Bandhu ₹10,000/year.
