What is Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY)?

Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) is a social security pension scheme run by the Government of Odisha under the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD). Named after the legendary Odia leader Madhusudan Das (fondly called Madhu Babu), this scheme provides monthly financial assistance to elderly citizens, widows, persons with disabilities, and leprosy-affected individuals in the state.

The scheme was formed by merging the earlier Revised Old Age Pension Rules and Disability Pension Rules into a single comprehensive pension programme. It now benefits lakhs of vulnerable citizens across Odisha.

Note: With the new BJP government in Odisha (2024), the pension amounts have been significantly enhanced under the Mukhyamantri Sahayata Yojana, which builds upon MBPY. Current pension amounts are ₹3,000-₹3,500 per month.
