What is Lek Ladki Yojana?

Lek Ladki Yojana is a flagship scheme launched by the Government of Maharashtra to provide financial assistance for the welfare and education of girl children born in economically weaker families. The scheme was announced in the Maharashtra State Budget 2023-24.

Under this scheme, the government provides financial assistance at various stages of a girl child's life — from birth to higher education — with a total benefit of up to ₹1,01,000 (₹1 lakh+). The scheme aims to reduce the gender gap, promote girl child education, and discourage practices like child marriage.

The scheme applies to girls born in families holding Yellow or Orange ration cards (BPL and APL families below a certain income threshold).

Who is Eligible?

  • Girl child born on or after the scheme's launch date in Maharashtra
  • Family must hold a Yellow (BPL) or Orange ration card
  • Family's annual income must be ₹1 lakh or less (Yellow card) or up to ₹1.5 lakh (Orange card) — as per ration card category
  • The girl must be a domicile of Maharashtra
  • Benefits available for up to two girl children per family
  • The girl must be enrolled in school/college at the relevant stages to receive instalments

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Is Lek Ladki Yojana only for BPL families?

The scheme covers families with Yellow ration cards (BPL) and Orange ration cards (economically weaker APL families). Families with White or Saffron ration cards are not eligible.

Q2. Can I get benefits for more than two daughters?

No. The scheme provides benefits for a maximum of two girl children per family.

Q3. What happens if the girl gets married before 18?

The final instalment of ₹75,000 is only given if the girl is unmarried at age 18 and has completed at least Class 12. Early marriage disqualifies the final benefit.

All amounts are transferred directly to the bank account linked with the application through DBT.

Q7. What if I lose my acknowledgement receipt?

You can track your application using your Aadhaar number or registered mobile number on the scheme portal.
