What is Krishak Mitra Yojana (MP)?

Krishak Mitra Yojana is a Madhya Pradesh government scheme that provides farmers with a new agricultural pump electricity connection — including transformer installation and extension of power line up to 200 metres — at no cost to the farmer. The entire infrastructure cost is borne by the MP government and electricity distribution companies.

The scheme is specifically for farmers who need a new pump connection for irrigation.

Key Benefits

Feature Details
Connection capacity Up to 5 HP (3-phase) agricultural pump
Cost to farmer Free — zero cost for connection and transformer
Line extension Up to 200 metres from existing line
Transformer Installed by the electricity company
Electricity tariff Subsidised agriculture tariff (approximately ₹3–4/unit)
Target farmers Small and marginal farmers without pump connection

Who is Eligible?

You ARE eligible if:

  • You are a farmer in Madhya Pradesh with agricultural land that needs irrigation
  • You do not currently have an agriculture pump electricity connection on the land
  • The nearest electricity line is within 200 metres of your land (for free connection)
  • Your pump capacity is 5 HP or below

If the line extension is more than 200 metres, you will need to contribute proportionally for the extra distance.

Documents Required

  1. Aadhaar Card — farmer's identity
  2. Land records (khasra/patwari certificate) — proof of agricultural land ownership
  3. Bank passbook — Aadhaar-linked
  4. Mobile number registered with Aadhaar
  5. Photograph
  6. Application form (from MP electricity company or online)

How to Apply — Step by Step

Step 1 — Apply Online

Go to the MP Energy Portal or MP Online:

Register and apply for a new agricultural pump connection under Krishak Mitra Yojana.

Step 2 — Offline Application (Alternative)

Visit your nearest Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of MP Electricity or Discom sub-division office. Collect and fill the Krishak Mitra Yojana application form.

Step 3 — Site Survey

After application, an electricity lineman/engineer visits the field to:

  • Verify land records
  • Measure distance from existing line to the pump location
  • Determine transformer requirement

Step 4 — Approval and Infrastructure Work

After approval:

  • Transformer is installed
  • Line is extended up to 200 metres
  • Meter is installed at the pump location

Step 5 — Pump Connection Active

Once the connection is energized, your agriculture pump is ready to run on the subsidised agriculture tariff.

Subsidised Agriculture Tariff in MP

Madhya pradesh farmers receive a heavily subsidised electricity tariff for agriculture:

  • Flat rate or metered rate (varies by scheme)
  • Free electricity up to certain hours for small farmers in some tariff categories
  • Separate agriculture feeder timing (to ensure reliable power during farming hours)

Frequently Asked Questions

1. My pump is 7.5 HP. Is it covered under Krishak Mitra?

No. The scheme covers pumps up to 5 HP. For higher-capacity pumps, you need to apply for a regular (paid) agriculture pump connection.

2. The nearest power line is 400 metres from my farm. What do I pay?

The first 200 metres is free. For the additional 200 metres, you pay the standard infrastructure cost (approximately ₹70,000–₹1,00,000 per km — prorated). Confirm exact amount with the Discom SDO.

3. How long does it take to get the connection after application?

Typically 30–60 days from application to energization, subject to approval, material availability, and survey scheduling.

4. I already have a pump connection. Can I upgrade under Krishak Mitra?

No. Krishak Mitra Yojana is specifically for new connections on land where no agriculture pump connection exists. Existing connection upgrades are handled through standard Discom procedures.

5. Can a tenant farmer apply for Krishak Mitra?

The connection is typically in the name of the land owner. Tenant farmers can request the landowner to apply. Some cases allow tenant applications with landowner's NOC and lease agreement — check with the Discom SDO.
