What is Mukhyamantri Mahila Utkarsh Yojana (MMUY)?
Mukhyamantri Mahila Utkarsh Yojana (MMUY) is a Gujarat government scheme that provides interest-free loans up to ₹1 lakh to women's Self Help Groups (SHGs / Sakhi Mandals) for self-employment and micro-enterprise activities. The scheme aims to promote women's economic empowerment by eliminating the interest burden on small business loans.
Under MMUY, the Gujarat government pays the interest subsidy (over and above 7% rate of interest) directly to the banks, making the loan effectively interest-free for the women borrowers. The scheme covers both urban and rural women across the state.
The scheme has two main components:
- Individual loans for women entrepreneurs (through SHG linkage)
- Group loans for Sakhi Mandals / Self Help Groups
Who is Eligible?
For individual women (through SHG):
- Must be a resident of Gujarat
- Must be a member of a registered Sakhi Mandal / SHG
- Age: 18 years and above
- Must have a bank account linked with Aadhaar
For Sakhi Mandal (SHG):
- Must be a registered SHG under Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company (GLPC) or NULM/NRLM
- Must have been active for at least 6 months
- Must have regular savings and meeting records
- Must have a group bank account
- Group should have 10 members (urban) or 10-15 members (rural)
Loan Details
| Component | Loan Amount | Interest Rate | Repayment Period |

| Individual through SHG | Up to ₹1,00,000 per woman | 0% (interest-free) | 3 years |
How interest-free works:
- Banks charge normal interest rate (7-8%)

Important Tips
- Form or join a Sakhi Mandal first — Individual women cannot apply directly. You must be part of a registered SHG.
- Maintain regular meetings and savings — Banks check SHG records before approving the loan. At least 6 months of regular activity is required.
- Use the loan productively — The loan is meant for self-employment activities like tailoring, food processing, handicrafts, dairy farming, etc.
- Repay on time — Timely repayment makes the group eligible for higher loan amounts in the future.
- Combine with skill training — Gujarat government offers free skill development programs for SHG members. Attend these to improve your business skills.
