What is Punjab Aashirwad Scheme?

The Punjab Aashirwad scheme (also known as the Shagun scheme) provides one-time financial assistance to economically weaker families for the marriage of their daughters. The scheme aims to reduce the financial burden on poor families during their daughter's wedding and promote simple marriages.

The amount of assistance varies based on the applicant's category:

Who is Eligible?

Eligibility Criteria

  • The family must be a resident of Punjab
  • Family annual income should not exceed ₹1,00,000 for general, or as per BPL criteria
  • For SC/ST benefits, valid caste certificate is required
  • The bride must be at least 18 years of age
  • The groom must be at least 21 years of age
  • The marriage must be the first marriage of the daughter (remarriage eligible only for widows/divorcees)

How to Apply

Online Application

  1. Visit edistrict.punjabgovt.gov.in
  2. Register and log in to the e-District portal
  3. Navigate to Social Security → Aashirwad/Shagun scheme
  4. Fill in the application form with bride's and family details
  5. Upload all required documents
  6. Submit the application
  7. Note the application reference number

Offline Application

  1. Visit the District Social Welfare Office or Tehsil Welfare Office
  2. Collect the Aashirwad scheme application form
  3. Fill in all details and attach document photocopies
  4. Submit at least 15 days before the marriage (pre-marriage) or within 6 months after marriage (post-marriage)
  5. Collect the acknowledgment receipt

Application Timeline

  • Pre-marriage application: Submit at least 15 days before the scheduled marriage date

Can the groom's family apply for this scheme?
