What is Punjab Aashirwad Scheme?
The Punjab Aashirwad scheme (also known as the Shagun scheme) provides one-time financial assistance to economically weaker families for the marriage of their daughters. The scheme aims to reduce the financial burden on poor families during their daughter's wedding and promote simple marriages.
The amount of assistance varies based on the applicant's category:

Who is Eligible?
Eligibility Criteria
- The family must be a resident of Punjab
- Family annual income should not exceed ā¹1,00,000 for general, or as per BPL criteria
- For SC/ST benefits, valid caste certificate is required
- The bride must be at least 18 years of age
- The groom must be at least 21 years of age
- The marriage must be the first marriage of the daughter (remarriage eligible only for widows/divorcees)
- Only two daughters per family can avail this benefit
Who is NOT Eligible
- Families with annual income exceeding the limit
- Second/subsequent marriages (except for widows/divorcees)
- Third daughter onwards from the same family
- Non-residents of Punjab
Documents Required
- Aadhaar card of the bride and her parents
- Residence proof ā voter ID, ration card, or electricity bill
- Income certificate from the Tehsildar/SDM office
- Caste certificate (for SC/ST applicants)
- BPL certificate (for BPL category applicants)
- Age proof of bride (10th marksheet, birth certificate)
- Marriage invitation card (for pre-marriage application) or Marriage certificate (for post-marriage application)
- Bank account details of the bride or her parent
- Photograph of the bride
- Widow certificate / death certificate of husband (for widow category)
How to Apply
Online Application
- Visit edistrict.punjabgovt.gov.in
- Register and log in to the e-District portal
- Navigate to Social Security ā Aashirwad/Shagun scheme
- Fill in the application form with bride's and family details
- Upload all required documents
- Submit the application
- Note the application reference number
Offline Application
- Visit the District Social Welfare Office or Tehsil Welfare Office
- Collect the Aashirwad scheme application form
- Fill in all details and attach document photocopies
- Submit at least 15 days before the marriage (pre-marriage) or within 6 months after marriage (post-marriage)
- Collect the acknowledgment receipt
Application Timeline
- Pre-marriage application: Submit at least 15 days before the scheduled marriage date
- Post-marriage application: Submit within 6 months of the marriage date
- Applications submitted after 6 months of marriage may be rejected
Verification and Disbursement
- Application received at District Social Welfare Office

Important Tips
- Apply early ā submit your application at least a month before the wedding for pre-marriage disbursement
- Income certificate must be current ā get a fresh income certificate from the Tehsildar, not more than 6 months old
- Keep marriage proof ready ā for post-marriage applications, get the marriage certificate registered
- Two daughters only ā plan accordingly as only two daughters per family can avail this benefit
- SC/ST families get higher amount ā ensure you have a valid caste certificate to claim ā¹51,000

Can I apply after the marriage has taken place?
Yes, you can apply within 6 months after the marriage date. However, applying before the marriage is recommended for timely disbursement.
What if my income certificate shows more than ā¹1,00,000?
You will not be eligible for the scheme. Ensure that the income certificate accurately reflects your family income.
Can the groom's family apply for this scheme?
No, only the bride's family can apply. The assistance is meant to support the bride's family with marriage expenses.
Is this scheme available for inter-caste marriages?
Yes, inter-caste marriages are eligible. In fact, the Punjab government may provide additional assistance for inter-caste marriages under a separate scheme.
Can NRI families avail this scheme?
