What is Rythu Bima Scheme?

Rythu Bima (Farmer Insurance) is Telangana government's life insurance scheme that provides ₹5 lakh life insurance cover to farmers between 18 and 59 years of age. The premium is paid entirely by the Telangana government — farmers pay nothing.

Key Benefits

Feature Details
Life insurance cover ₹5,00,000
Premium 100% paid by Telangana government
Age coverage 18 to 59 years
Cause of death Natural or accidental death (both covered)
Nominee Registered in land records / pattadar passbook
Payment To nominee within 15–30 days of claim

Who is Eligible?

You ARE automatically covered if:

  • You are a farmer with agricultural land in Telangana (pattadar/owner)
  • You are between 18 and 59 years of age
  • Your land is registered in the Dharani portal and you appear as pattadar (landowner)

Tenant farmers are NOT covered — only landowners (pattadars) are enrolled automatically.

How Enrollment Works

Unlike other schemes, Rythu Bima enrollment is automatic:

  1. Telangana government registers all eligible pattadars (land owners) aged 18–59 from the Dharani land records
  2. LIC provides the insurance coverage
  3. Farmers receive their Rythu Bima certificate which can be verified at dharani.telangana.gov.in

No separate application is required. If you are a pattadar and aged 18–59, you should already be covered.

How to Claim the Insurance

Claims are filed by the farmer's family/nominee after death.

Step 1 — Inform Village Level Officer (VLO)

Contact the Village Revenue Officer (VRO) / Panchayat Secretary immediately after the farmer's death.

Step 2 — Submit Claim Documents

Submit to the Rythu Bima Society through the VRO:

  • Death certificate (from registrar)
  • Pattadar passbook (land records)
  • Aadhaar card of deceased farmer and nominee
  • Bank details of nominee (Aadhaar-linked)
  • If accidental death: FIR / post-mortem report

Step 3 — VRO/VLO Verification

VRO verifies documents and submits the claim to the Rythu Bima Society/LIC.

Step 4 — Payment to Nominee

After LIC processes the claim: ₹5 lakh is directly credited to the nominee's bank account.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. My husband was a farmer and died last month. How do I claim?

Contact the local Village Revenue Officer (VRO) immediately. Bring the death certificate, land records (pattadar passbook), your Aadhaar, and bank details. The VRO guides you through the claim process.

2. My father died in a road accident. Is his Rythu Bima claim different from natural death?

The claim process is the same, but for accidental death you additionally need the FIR and post-mortem report. The insurance covers both causes — ₹5 lakh in both cases.

3. My husband was 63 years old when he died. Is he covered?

No. Rythu Bima covers farmers aged 18 to 59 only. At 63, he has aged out of the scheme.

4. We sold our land recently. Is the former owner still covered?

Coverage is linked to land ownership. Once land is transferred, the old pattadar's coverage ceases and the new pattadar is enrolled.

5. How do I know if my father was enrolled in Rythu Bima?

Check at dharani.telangana.gov.in using the land survey number or pattadar ID. The Rythu Bima status is shown in land records.
