Frequently Asked Questions

I studied in a government-aided school, not a pure government school. Am I eligible?

Pudhumai Penn requires studying in government schools (schools run and funded directly by Tamil Nadu state government), not government-aided private schools. If your school was a government school, you qualify. If it was aided (partially government-funded but private management), check the portal — criteria may vary.

What if I change my college course midway? Do I still get the scholarship?

If you continue in an eligible college in Tamil Nadu, the scholarship generally continues. Report any course/college change to the scholarship authorities through the portal.

Can I apply retroactively for missed months (if I didn't know about the scheme)?

Retroactive application for past months may not be possible. Apply immediately — you'll receive from the month of approval going forward.

Is Pudhumai Penn different from the Tamil Nadu Government's other girl scholarships?

Yes — Pudhumai Penn is specifically for girls from government schools. Other TN scholarships (like SC/ST post-matric) have different eligibility. You may be eligible for both simultaneously if you meet criteria for each.

I am pursuing MA (postgraduate). Am I eligible?

Pudhumai Penn is for undergraduate (UG) courses primarily. Check the current scheme guidelines for PG eligibility at pudhumaipen.tn.gov.in.
