What is UP Free Laptop Yojana?

UP Free Laptop Yojana (also called UP Digi Shakti Yojana or UP Free Tablet Scheme) is the Uttar Pradesh government's scheme to provide free laptops and tablets to meritorious students to bridge the digital divide. The scheme provides laptops to students who have passed their board exams with good marks or are enrolled in higher education.

The UP government announced distribution of 1 crore tablets + smartphones to students under the UP Digi Shakti scheme โ€” one of the largest digital device distribution drives in India.

Who is Eligible?

UP Digi Shakti Tablet/Smartphone:

  • Students who have passed Class 10 or 12 from a UP Board school
  • Students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate courses in UP government colleges and universities
  • Must be a Uttar Pradesh resident
  • Students studying in government colleges, ITIs, polytechnics, and skill development institutes

Free Laptop (Merit-based):

  • Students scoring 70% or above in Class 10 or 12 UP Board exams
  • Also includes students passing B.Tech, MBBS, BBA, BCA from state institutions

How to Apply / Register

Step 1: Check if Your Institution is Registered

  1. Go to digishaktiup.in
  2. Your college/university registers students โ€” individual students don't typically apply directly
  3. Check if your institution has uploaded your data on the Digi Shakti portal

Step 2: Student Registration

  1. Go to digishaktiup.in
  2. Click "Student Registration" (if available)
  3. Enter your name, date of birth, roll number, institution details
  4. Your eligibility is checked against the marks data

Step 3: Distribution

  • Tablets/laptops are distributed at college/district camps
  • The government announces distribution schedules district-wise
  • Students receive SMS/notification when their district's camp is scheduled
  • Bring your admit card / marksheet and Aadhaar card to collect the device

The UP Digi Shakti scheme provides:

UP Digi Shakti is primarily for government colleges and universities and recognised state institutions. Students at private colleges may not be covered. Check the official notification for the current scheme.

How will I know when distribution is in my district?

Can I sell the free laptop/tablet?

The devices distributed under government schemes are meant for educational use. Selling government-provided devices is discouraged and may be against scheme terms. Additionally, devices may be registered with government tracking.

I received the tablet but the screen is broken after 1 month. What do I do?

Contact the helpdesk at digishaktiup.in or the district education office. There may be a warranty process for device defects.
